What do you think about children beauty pageants(pls read the statment first)?

I RECENTLY ASK ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK AS FAR AS PAGEANTS EXPOSEING YOUR KIDS TO TALENT SCOUTS AND EARNING SCHOLORSHIPS. I WAS HOPEING SOME ONE WITH PAGEANT EXPERIANCE WOULD ANSWER,BUT I TAKE AVERYONES INPUT.ALL I GOT WAS ANSWERS ABOUT TRYING TO LIVE MY DREAMS THROUGH MY KIDS AND HOW CRUEL AND MEAN PARENTS ARE TO DO THIS. I MYSELF COMPETED SINCE A TODDLER AND DO COMPETE NOW AND HAVE BEEN VERY SUCESSFUL.MY GIRLS HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR 3 AND 4 YAERS,WINNING OVER $6400 IN SCHOLORSHIPS.THEY LIKE IT AND CAN STOP ANYTIME,THEY HAVE LEARNED TO BE OUT GOING,ARE NO LONGER SHY AND HAVE FRIENDS ACROSS THE COUNTRY THAT THEY HAVE MET.AT 3 YEARS OLD MY DD WAS CHOOSEN TO BE A RUNWAY MODEL FOR A WELL KNOW DRESS MAKER FOR FLOWER GIRL CLOTHING LINE.SHE IS A PRO AND IS ALWAYS ASKING WHEN THE NEXT PAGEANT IS.THERE ARE SOME CRAZY PAGEANT MOMS OUT THERE BUT FEW ARE LIKE THEY PORTRAY ON TV SHOWS. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK KNOWING THERE ARE 2 SIDES TO THIS ISSUE? I FEEL PEOPLE HAVE BEEN MISSLED IN ITS PORTRAYAL....

I personally think it is alright to have the pageants. I do not have a daughter, but IF I did and she wanted to be in the pageant, I would certainly encourage her. I helped set up for and judge a pageant here in Jacksonville, FL about 16 years ago. it was fun and like you said, the mom's were nothing like you see on TV. One little girl cried because she was so scared, her mom said "come here Baby, if you do not want to go out there, you don't have to." Most parents are pretty cool that way, but now and then you DO get the TV type! If a child has the looks to be in a pageant and to win a scholarships, then more power to them! But if they do not want to do it they should not be forced.

Kids got to learn to be competitive and pagents offer that. Competiotion is part of life, and best learned early then ending up being non competitive later on. Got to earn the food.
