What is the best fertilizer for hibiscus plants, and is it ok to apply now in Florida?

My 24 hibiscus plants are about 8 months old and about 3-4 ft. high. The dozen on the West end of the fence line is thriving, but the plants on the East side of the fence look puny and have few leaves or flowers. Not sure why...

Thanks for your help.

What is the best fertilizer for hibiscus plants, and is it ok to apply now in Florida?
Check for small fuzzy white or pink bugs in the stem and leaf junctions. You may have mealie bugs in the ones that are not thriving. It may also be due to poor light. Are the sickly ones in different light?

Use Lesco 13-24-6 with micros. It's great stuff. You buy it at Lesco Distribution Centers. They sell mostly to landscapers but they will sell to the public.

Yes, its OK to put it out now if you are south of Orlando.
Reply:Nitrophoska blue is good, but there are many fertilizers on the market that are specific for hibiscus.

What's a good vine to plant in my backyard to grow on a fence?

Here's the deal. I'm looking for a vine to plant in my back yard that will grow on my fence. Preferably one with colorful flowers for most if not all of the year. I live in New Orleans, so it's usually pretty friggin hot, although it gets into the 40's and 50's for a few months. My yard is paved, so I will have to line the perimeter with potted soil (maybe I could find long rectangular pots) and the vine would grow upwards all over the fence. Any recommendations would be helpful. Also, I'm trying to get into gardening. It'd be great if someone could recommend a website that tells you which plants are ideal for growing in certain areas, and which are low/high maintenance. Thanks!

What's a good vine to plant in my backyard to grow on a fence?
Passionflower, Trumpetvine, Honeysuckle, Moonflower...all beautiful, to name a few.
Reply:Grapevines are wild and grow fast but clematis are very pretty and come in a variety of colors. Passion flower is also very pretty
Reply:alamanda a yellow flower or a mandavilla a pink flower both work well
Reply:Grape Vines
Reply:Go to michiganbulb.com They are a catalog, but have photos and give info on all the plants. I order from them each year. Great information source.
Reply:You don't say whether it's a shade or sun area, but clematis usually does well in both, and it comes back every year. The flowers are usually purple, very pretty and showy, and it's easy to care for.

And hgtv.com usually has some good tips.
Reply:Clematis...if you buy a few plants paying attention to the start and end of there blooming cycle, you could have nice flowers from spring through fall.
Reply:A climbing rose would be a great choice but one with lots of extra work. I like wisteria but it is your choice Caution--growing this large of plant from a container will extra work no matter the choice so think this through if you are thinking low maintenance.
Reply:Honeysuckle or Jasmine.

I also use Michigan Bulb, they are a great company that I trust.
Reply:for blooms all season you may nees to mix your vinage.

I live in SC and it get pretty friggin hot and humid here also

I like to use in many of my landscaping projects as a privacy helper

a fairly evergreen (changes color with season)

evergreen clematis or confederate (star) jasmine

you can mix annual vines (which may cause you to have undue clean up problems later)

or add something like an old tyme climbing rose

this mix will have fragrance as well as year long coverage.

the main pruning I have done to these plantings together is to run a hedge trimmer to make an edge, then rake and discard plant litter.

What color nail polish would you wear with a black and white dress with red accents?

I have a fabulous summer dress, it's an A-line with a bold black and white floral pattern. The dress also has bright red accents in some of the flowers. I'm planning on getting matching bright red strappy sandals and probably a bold set of jewelry that highlights the red. Is red nail polish going overboard on the red? (I think so.) But what color do you do for the mani/pedi - I don't want it to clash with the red shoes.

What color nail polish would you wear with a black and white dress with red accents?
I think I might go with red nail polish myself, but if you honestly think that you'd be going overboard, trust your intuition and opt for a french manicure/pedicure. This will pretty much go with anything and (when done well) is classically elegant.
Reply:Red
Reply:I think red nails would be cute with your dress - As long as you don't add too many red accessories to take away from the dress. But, if you're afraid red might be going overboard, try a french manicure. Black could also be really cute, if you aren't too afraid of that. Also, clear is nice. I like it because it's shiny and cute without over-doing it on color.
Reply:french, but like, do black and the tips red! :)
Reply:Redddddddddd :D
Reply:i would wear red
Reply:Depends on where you're going and how long you nails are. If it's a work function, you're right play it safe and go more neutral. If it's a date or something fun with friends, go ahead and play! Match your red to your shoes and I bet you make new friends. Who could resist talking to you!
Reply:Id say clear is a good way to go if you dont want to add another color in the mix. And getting some white polish to brush the tips will look great (with a little practice) and is cheaper than getting your nails done at a salon.
Reply:red.. but not bright red.. a cherry darker shade of red
Reply:red because its pretty!! and great with black!
Reply:I agree with the answers that a french manicure would be best. Red would be too much, and it would be too matchy-matchy.
Reply:i would say either black oval nails or (a cool twist on the french mani) do a black tipped instead of white!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Red.

I'm wearing "Wet N Wild"

Royal Red.

I think it's fabulous. You should wear it with your dress.
Reply:i would say black-its very cute and kinda in now-just make sure u put it on short nails.Or you can just buff ur nails
Reply:okay three choices:

A classic french tip, a nice nude like opi's bubble bath polish

or a sheer shimmery polish such as opi's fit for queenland polish
Reply:How about "I Am Not Really A Waitress" from OPI? That red is very sexy and classy at the same time!
Reply:I think you should get ur mani/pedi done black and white. It's way~~~ cool and kind of prevents the red in ur outfit to go overboard.
Reply:i would say that red nail polish is a good choice and is not going over board at all.
Reply:french nail!! your dress has very bold colors already and I think doing your nails very bold would be over doing it
Reply:since you have black, red and white in your dress, and a bright red sandal, i would say go for french mani/pedi,trust me you wont go wrong.
Reply:french,

black,

or

shimmery white.

all those look really great as nail colors and would go great w. that outfit and yes red would be too much especially for your toes if you are going 2 be wearing red sandals.

good luck %26amp; hope i helped.

look good always,me
Reply:Try getting the original white tip Mani/Pedi. Or get a Red tip. That way the whole nail is not Red just a little. :)

How or where can I identify a unique flowered plant that was found growing wild in woods behind my home?

Has 2 big oval shaped green leaves at bottom of plant. A green stem approx.10-12" comes up out of this. At top of stem is the unusal looking pink flower. It droops down, kinda like a foxglove or lenden rose grows.Has 1-2 very small green leaves at its base. Flower part is shaped sorta like a cornucopia with a small opening buried right in its center. It is pink, with deeper pink, or even purplish distinct viens within the petal. Appears to be only made up of 1 petal that is folded in on itself. There are about 10-12 growing all in same area of deep woods. Some appear to be growing in a line of about 4-5. One other detail about the flower area; In between the actual flower and small green leaves' on both sides tucked up in there, appears to be a white berry, reminds me of a miseltoe berry. Can't locate anyone or any source who can definately tell me what this is. I have not ever seen a flower like this before, it is very different looking. I want to try and transplant a few to my yard.

Contact your university extension office nearest you or the Dept. of Natural R esources, Or your Conservation Office. Try to get a pic to put online I would like to see it

Reply:There still isn't enough information in your question for me to make a positive identification on the plant. Never less I would like to comment about your plans on digging it and transplanting to your yard.Digging wildflowers often contributes more to their destruction than conservation. Please "love 'em and leave 'em. Many states have laws on picking or digging wildflowers on both private and/or state land. Few wildflowers survive transplanting and many others are sacrificed for the ones that do survive. Nature grows these natural gardens so that we may enjoy them not destroy them.
Reply:most botanical gardens have an email address to ask questions it usually takes three days to get an answer just look up the garden in your state and at the top of the page you will see email just click on that and your on your way to professional answers

I'm sending flowers for someone else - what to write on the card?

I should explain: My best friends boyfriend called me in the middle of the night with his credit card and wants me to send flowers for their 2 year anniversary. . . He's a thousand miles away.

I know his nicknames for her, I just need a really good romantic line from a guy's perspective to put on the card.

Help me out!

How do I get rid of the water marks that get left on my glass vases?

When the flowers have died (boohoo!) and I try to clean the vase, it leaves a nasty 'water line' mark. What will remove this without spending a fortune? Thanks....x

How do I get rid of the water marks that get left on my glass vases?
Leave badly stained cut glass over night in a mixture of water , detergent and a few drops of ammonia. To remove lime deposits, fill the glass vase with distilled water, leave for a week, then gently remove the crust with a toothbrush. Here´s a little bit more information for you. If glassware such as a decanter becomes stained inside, put a tablespoon of silver sand , obtainable from a garden shop, and a week solution of warm water and liquid detergent. Swill the contents round, but check frequently that the glass is not being scratched. Hope this helps a little
Reply:I always clean my glass vases in bleach

I soak them in warm water in a bowl with some bleach for a few hours

Making sure the whole vase is covered then rinse well ,

My vases always come out really clean and sparkling
Reply:Pour some ammonia in the vase %26amp; add hot water, then let it soak a while. You can also use an ammonia cleaner such as Top Job or Mr. Clean.
Reply:Plain white vinegar, cheap and cheerful. Just fill the vase past where the water mark is, let it sit overnight and it should come off quite easily.
Reply:Vinegar.
Reply:bicarbonate of soda or denture tablets add water and let it soak for a few hours then wash out and they should have gone
Reply:Vinegar
Reply:bleach water
Reply:Vinegar, or steam over a kettle and buff with a soft cloth.
Reply:Warm vinegar should move it. Leave it to soak in the vinegar overnight.
Reply:elbow grease
Reply:Drop of bleach in the water and scrub a bit with an old toothbrush.
Reply:Leave to soak overnight in vinegar and water, any vinegar will do from malt, white and even white wine vinegar but for cheapness I'd use white. In the morning just empty out and wash in hot soapy water, no elbow grease required.
Reply:Leave it to soak in hot water and bleach (not boiling) for about 15 minutes then wash with a cloth and rinse.

What can you tell me about a serving dish with the imprint Homer Leighin, Made in ???, D S N?

I purchased it at an estate sale and wanted to know more about it. (age, etc.) It is oblong with a thin black line around the edge, a thicker black band with flowers, an even thicker yellow band with flowers and a thin black scallop edge.

When searching the internet I can only fine Homer Laughlin but not Homer Leighlin.

I have been an auctioneer for auctions and estate sales for over 10 years and I a haven't seen that one. Ebay is a great source to start off on research. Type into ebay different variations of the spelling and see what you come up with.

I am looking for an old song which contains the line," I envy every flower in your garden"?

My mother is 94 and she says she can remember her grandmother singing this song

I am looking for an old song which contains the line," I envy every flower in your garden"?
There is an old poem by Henry Dyke called A lover's envy - it goes like this:

I envy every flower that blows

Along the meadow where she goes,

And every bird that sings to her,

And every breeze that brings to her

The fragrance of the rose.

I envy every poet's rhyme

That moves her heart at eventime,

And every tree that wears for her

Its brightest bloom, and bears for her

The fruitage of its prime.

I envy every Southern night

That paves her path with moonbeams white,

And silvers all the leaves for her,

And in their shadow weaves for her

A dream of dear delight.

I envy none whose love requires

Of her a gift, a task that tires:

I only long to live to her,

I only ask to give to her

All that her heart desires.

Perhaps someone put it to a tune?

What is a good privacy tree or shrb with little or no maintenance?

A man just put a house trailer in the front of our house and I'm wanting a privacy fence, tree or shrub to hide it from out view. We do not want any thing that has berries or flowers. It can not spread wide we have to watch the property line and I do not want the tree or shrub to take over what little front yard I have. I live in southeast ohio. Partial shade/ sun. It would be a wind breaker too. We live on top of a hill.

What is a good privacy tree or shrb with little or no maintenance?
Fast Barrier or Privacy Screen

Shoots up to 6 feet a year or more!

Often used as a windscreen because its branches create a dense barrier. Lowers heating bills when planted on the north side of your yard.

For a quick privacy screen, plant 5 to 8 feet apart.

Its upward-sloping branches form a gentle, columnar outline that creates a beautiful silhouette during any season.

Many enjoy its picturesque green color and its ability to mature quickly into a row of visually pleasing trees.

The Lombardy Poplar is one of the few trees to have its branches grow up rather than down.

These trees are very popular for birds to nest in.

The Lombardy Poplar does best in Growing Zones 3-9.
Reply:I would consider Thuja plicata - the western arborvitae. This is a fast growing narrow evergreen with deer resistance. It is much faster growing than easter arborvitae (white cedar). There is a selection call Sprng Grove that originated in Ohio and has good hardiness. If you can't find Spring Grove, look for Green Giant. You can see an image at:

Why are people so uptight when it comes to gardening?

So many people want their gardens so perfect, everything in line, and every living thing besides the plants that were planted there dead. My garden is completely the opposite. My garden is beautiful and vibrant, and a habitat for several living creatures. I have 6 Dyanthis, 3 Cana Lilies, Carrots, Tomatoes, Radishes, Queen Anne's Lace, Morning Glories, Some sort of purple flower, peas, beans, Sunflowers, and even a single Corn Stalk! Some of those things were planted last spring, but many of them-like the tomatoes, Queen Anne's Lace, and the plant with purple flowers just decided to live there. It's one of my greatest joys, and I can't understand why people slave every day so that their gardens are absolutely perfect. Plants weren't made to be perfect. They were made to be unique. Gardens aren't only for humans to enjoy. Why can't many people understand that?

Why are people so uptight when it comes to gardening?
I think this comes from the conditioning that went on in the 50's to have "the perfect home". Like on all the shows from that time period everyone was all about having the perfect living room, and the perfect kitchen, and everything was so neat and orderly. And that's when all sorts of chemicals started to come in to the scene to help make your grass super green and keep the "pests" away.

We just have this idea burned into our brains now about how things are supposed to be from these companies and our parents.

Another point I think is that humans have tried to put themselves above nature and so that means having a perfectly manicured yard (or home) somehow means we're better than nature. We've forgotten our roots and our place on this planet.

I say go wild and screw all those uptight people who've forgotten how to enjoy nature!!!!
Reply:i agree w/you i plant everythingg a rowof flowers a row i veggies.i dont use any herbcides or insecticides i let nature do her thing and i always have plenty of food comming out of the garden.my neighbor manicures his garden %26amp; i'm always giving them food out of my garden.i prepare a 2ftwide bed for my flowers and just sow the flower seed from the flowers that i have grown and let dry out over the winter.i mix all the seed together and guess what i have better flowers than my neighbors who buy their seed .this fall i have broclic and romaine lettuce to set out for my winter garden ..
Reply:Maybe that is how they enjoy them: growing challenging plants. Why do you criticize? You don't have to do it and apparently don't; so be happy.
Reply:Some people are obsessive compulsive(they can't help it) and it shows in everything they do .I know ,I'm married to one. Your garden sounds like mine. I call the plants that just grow on their own, gifts from nature. I have a small tree that grows wild in the open areas and I pruned it as it grew and it is the most beautiful shape. It has berries on it in the fall and is a natural bird feeder, and provides us with shade in the hot summer. I have perennials mostly, all different shapes and colours. Every season looks different. Most flowers are derived from wild flowers and they aren't colour co-ordinated in the wild. just keep on doing what you enjoy and the birds and butterflies will come to visit every year.
Reply:So many things in people's lives are out of their control, so they try to control what they can. My garden is like yours, it decides what it wants to live there. I get a lot of pleasure in the volunteer plants. They chose to come live with me. The "critters" are welcome, too.
Reply:I AGREE. I HATE THE SHEERED SHRUBS PEOPLE PLANT ALONG THE FRONT OF THEIR HOUSE. THEY LOOK LIKE GREEN BOXES. A MORE NATURAL LOOK ENHANCES THE HOUSE
Reply:I want my garden to be exactly like yours! However... and I'm not sure it's my uptightness... if I waited for things to just "decide" to move into my garden, I think I'd end up with very little. =(

I love the natural look, but I must confess I also like the more formal gardens too. It's just a matter of taste, and certainly not a misunderstanding on anyone's part. That's the great thing about plants.... they certainly CAN be perfect if you want them to be... or they can be casual, or fancy, or shaped into animals, or overgrown with wild abandon!
Reply:One person's "uptightedness" is another person's idea of beauty. You might as well ask why some people like red cars and some blue.

Gardening is such a diverse hobby that there is something for everyone, whether it's a formal garden or landscape, a wild flower meadow or a large market garden. It's all good.

Good Luck and Happy Gardening from Cathy and Neal!
Reply:People want to create and control their little world with their garden. It's a creative outlet and everyone has a different point of view about what's nice and pretty and ugly.
Reply:Well, I for one am not uptight about gardening. I do have a problem with symmetry, but I am working to control the urge to make everything symmetrical. Lately, I've been purchasing only one plant at a time and just putting it in an empty spot and it seems to be working well. Now I finally have a cottage garden which I've always wanted. However, having said that, I also appreciate the well groomed and manicured formal gardens, but I wouldn't want to picnic there. Maybe read some Chaucer or something. Anyhow, I imagine that, like myself, most gardeners look at their garden as a work of art and either they are impressionistic like you, me, and RScott ;) or they are traditional or contemporary and like things neat and orderly and that is where they get their enjoyment. It's all just a matter of preference and each individual style deserves respect.
Reply:I would like to have a garden like yours in my back yard, but in my front yard I want everything perfectly neat and in a row.
Reply:I like you already !! I too am amazed at how many people are determined to drive round plants into square holes using every chemical known to man to "nuke" them into submission. When I try to describe my gardens, I tell people to imagine a beautiful English country cottage garden and the gardener has been dead for a couple years. That said, I'm not above using science to achieve my tangled look. It's fun to bury a little electrical heating tape to the root zone of a zone 6 plant here in zone 4 just to make people think my thumb is greener than it is. I know lots of other tricks but they're secrets. RScott

Should I give a woman flowers on a second date?

We have talked on line and on the phone. we met in person today for lunch, and spent the whole afternoon toghter. It went great ! I know she's gonna be my girlfriend, the chemistry was there! We have made plans to see each other on saturday early like 3:30pm. Should I take her flowers or just show up? I don;t want to come off pushy..yet she's very reseptive toeverytning so far.

Should I give a woman flowers on a second date?
If I were her, I would love flowers. That sounds so thoughtful and sweet, not to mention a pretty gift to look at!
Reply:keep it simple id say take a single rose assortments of flowers are more like a anniversary thing
Reply:What a romantic thing to do! Picture it! She's dressed and waiting, listening for your knock. She hears you, opens the door, and is surprised and delighted at your flowery tribute. She gives you a smile you'd walk a mile for, you hand her the blossoms, and -- then what?

There she stands, all dressed and ready to go out, stuck with a handful of drippy cut flowers. Unless there is someone else in her home willing to deal with the messy thing, she is IT. Perhaps she had planned on leaving immediately, but now she must either invite you in or leave you on the doorstep while she at the very least finds some sort of container suitable for keeping your gift in water for several hours. If she wants to actually put the things in a vase, she's has quite a little task before her.

I'm sure you see my point. Get a cheap vase at a Salvation Army or 99 Cent store, prepare the flowers yourself, and hand her a ready to display vase. Now THAT shows you to be a thoughtful fellow, something a lady values much more than a fellow who is merely willing to drop a few bucks at a flower stall.

Here is a short guide on how to cut and arrange flowers. http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/con...

If traveling with water in the vase is the problem, wrap the stem ends in very wet toweling to minimize drips and spills.

Good luck with the new romance!
Reply:yea why not? girls love getting flowers.
Reply:you're the best. yes, give her flowers. she will be so happy and surprised.
Reply:You say it went well on the first date or on the phone...what was something she talked about that you could show her that you heard her say...and bring something related to that...it shows that you were really listening...flowers are a great "I'm sorry" thing to do...not all women fall down for flowers...not me cause I love plants too much to see great flowers cut and die...so for me an awesome plant would be something I would prefer...so don't just do the expected norm...find something that makes you unique in the here is something special just for you....
Reply:i think its okay to give flowers in the second date but you sure she also likes flowers like all the girls b/c for me m not really into flowers..m a girl also but different girls have different personality...but i think its better than not giving anything.
Reply:take her flowers she will love it!
Reply:If the feeling is there, then flowers would be lovely, nothing too flashy.I'm sure her eyes will glow and you'll make her feel very special indeed.Flowers aren't pushy,it just means you're thinking of her.Best of Luck.
Reply:This is what you do man and it will deff work. Call her when you show up to her house and make sure the flowers are in the backseat. When she comes in the car give her a compliment and throw this in with it like for example "hey you look great but I need you to go inside". And she will be like why whats up and be like its not you but I need you to put these in water. Then BAMMM show her the flowers and you are set my man.

Do you have the time to write one of these rhymes?

Leonine rhyme, medial rhyme:

Rhyme that occurs at the caesura and line end within a single line, like a rhymed couplet

printed as a single line:

I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers

Caesural rhyme, interlaced rhyme:

Rhymes that occur at the caesura and line end within a pair of lines--like an abab quatrain

printed as two lines:

Sweet is the treading of wine, and sweet the feet of the dove;

But a goodlier gift is thine than foam of the grapes or love.

Yea, is not even Apollo, with hair and harp-string of gold,

A bitter God to follow, a beautiful God to behold?

Or the following unusual example, an In Memoriam stanza (abba) printed as couplets:

Upon the mat she lies and leers and on the tawny throat of her

Flutters the soft and silky fur or ripples to her pointed ears.

Come forth, my lovely seneschal! so somnolent, so statuesque!

Come forth you exquisite grotesque! half woman and half animal!

Do you have the time to write one of these rhymes?
Leonine rhyme:

The trees will bend to the pushing of the wind.

Caesural rhyme:

The bright light of the sun, sparkled on the ocean like gems;

In the hot summer we run from our school year problems.

We each tell an old story, that were once told as new;

Until the dawn becomes dark and stormy and we become few.

How should I decorate my first apartment?

I just moved into my very first apartment and really need ideas decorating! I really love the color red and wanted some sort of theme. I don't have much money so the stuff has to be cheap! Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions, links to products would be especially helpful! I was thinking things along the lines of some nice framed art, flowers, some pillows, things like that... Thanks a bunch!

How should I decorate my first apartment?
If it's your very own apartment, and your very first one - away from mum and dad - then do whatever tickles your fancy, and whatever your parents would not have approved of. I am not saying this in a disrespectful way, but it is always good to experience the first flutters of freedom. I am assuming that you are still young, so be adventurous and decorate your apartment in any way you please, without sticking to any rules or regulations. Do it while you can, because once someone moves in with you, or you go into a relationship, then the apartment won't be your own private space anymore and you will have to share space and opinion. Good luck.
Reply:Go for the classical white style.

Reply:It really depends on the kind of impression you want to make. Red (roses especially) flowers are indicative of love. Yellow are indicative of friendship. If you secretly find out what her favorite type of flowers are and show up with them you may be promoted to god-status. As a girl, I appreciate flowers of any kind, but if its obvious the guy put some thought in selecting the type and color of flowers then I am hopelessly impressed.

Best flowering tree / shrub for a small planter box?

I have a small planter box that runs the length of my back yard. It is only about a foot to a foot and a half wide. I am trying to figure out what would be best to plant in there. I'd like to get some kind of a flowering bush or small tree to line the planter. It doesnt get alot of sun, mostly late afternoon and early evening sun. I just want to put some color in there but need something with a little bit of hieght to it...

Best flowering tree / shrub for a small planter box?
There are a number of dwarf forms that would do well in containers. Phormiums from New Zealand like 'Platt's Black,' with narrow leaves and near-black spiky blades can add the height with a strong punctuation.

If you like hardy fushias, they can offer vivid color in a graceful flowing form.

Dwarf rhododendrons, often alpine species, are solid year round elements that offer color in spring.

Include a layer of small bulbs to start the growing seson then fill with annuals as needed.

A small trellis could support one of the smaller scrambling clematis vines. There are even miniature climbing roses that would do well in containers as well as the entire patio rose class. http://www.sequoianursery.biz/
Reply:I'm not sure what part of the country you live in, but Abutillon (flowering maple) are great. They come all colors (white, burgandy, orange, red, yellow, pink). They don't require a lot of sun or a lot of care and they can flower ALL YEAR LONG. The flowers are bell shaped lanterns. The shrubs will adapt to the size of their habitiat. I have some that are only 3-4 ft tall and some that are 10ft tall and 4 ft wide.

What pottery maker stamps AL at the bottom of their pottery?

The AL mark is inside a large circle and has a flower above the bottom 'line' of the capitol L. Does anyone know who the maker is?

What pottery maker stamps AL at the bottom of their pottery?
I had a look at this site

http://www.thepotteries.org/mark/initial...

and AL is not listed, which leaves me to think it isn't British, unless...

Is there any other mark at all? I have a couple of Royal Doulton vases from about 1905 which have a very faint Royal Doulton stamp and very clear initials. I looked for the initials and couldn't find them, then realised I'd overlooked the stamp.

Good luck.
Reply:Living in Stoke-on-Trent, the home of the Potteries, the initials don't sound familiar.

Do you have any idea of the age of the piece, as many small pottery firms went out of business in the post-war period.

The two other possibilities are that it is a piece of St. Ives pottery, or that it is the mark of an individual potter rather than a pottery firm.

Please let me know if you find anything more out.

Can you tell me if ammonia or bleach will kill poison ivy or oak??

I have it along my fence line and no plants or flowers are growing there, just this poison. Can I spray bleach or ammonia on the plants and kill this poison off??

Which will work better of the two??

I am highly allergic to it and get it every time I trim! Thanks!

Can you tell me if ammonia or bleach will kill poison ivy or oak??
bleach is one of the great scourges of human invention so try vinegar, worked for me so would salt. and, btw ammonia is a fertilizer!!!!!LOL's
Reply:Can't speak for bleach, but ammonia converts to nitrogen, and will make it grow more.
Reply:24-D ester is a broad leaf killer. You can try that in one of those hose sprayer deals. I would do a micture of two teaspoons ( the sprayer should do it for you.) 24-D should be available at your local farm supply.
Reply:If it gets on you, you can do the following:

Ammonia neutralizes urushiol. In a spray bottle, mix one part household ammonia to ten parts water. Spray your skin and clothes before going into areas with poison ivy. Also spray yourself immediately after contact. Allow to dry thoroughly before washing up. When used within 20 minutes of exposure it is effective in preventing the rash. It does not work on established rashes.

I you accidentally come in contact with leaves or vines mix one part Chlorox to 10 parts water and take a sponge bath to neutralize the oil on belt, shoes, and you. All other items of clothing go in the washing machine with a standard laundry soap. If you follow this formula within a half hour of exposure you save all the agony and avoid itch, blisters, and searching the net for remedies. .

Something like "roundup" will kill the plants. After they are dead you should stay cautious of residual oil.

Good luck
Reply:Don't use bleach and ammonia together!!! It's highly

toxic. Even using one then the other can cause fumes.

Vinegar will kill weeds and grass, but I don't know about

poison ivy or oak. Give it a try. It may work, but might

take a few days to really kill the stuff. Pour some more on

and wait to see.

Good news, it's safe and cheap!

Last ditch effort, go to the garden store and get the

real stuff. It's worth it.

Ivvas

ps

Wear long sleeve when you trim, and then be sure to wash

that shirt.
Reply:I would think maybe some actual research is called for here. I would want to be sure. I would imagine bleach or ammonia could be harmful to any wildlife. Go to a place that sells those products and ask.
Reply:I have my doubts ammonia, bleach or vinegar will do much good. Herbicides such as Garlon or Crossbow work great when used earlier in the year. I have had great luck with Crossbow! As with any product, follow the directions.

Can a 70-year-old dogwood tree that's grown at a severe angle be successfully replanted to face the other way?

In our older neighborhood there are beautiful pink and white flowering dogwood trees that have lined the streets for decades. They're regularly spaced in a four-foot wide grassy area between the street and sidewalk, two in front of each house. They're all between twelve to fifteen feet tall. The trunk of one of my neighbor's trees has grown at a very strange angle, about 60 degrees, I'd guess, and it's the only tree on the block that's done so. At a height of about five feet, the trunk is now, literally, at the middle of the sidewalk, and then from that point it goes straight upward. That 'elbow' of the trunk is at just the right height for unobservant and distracted pedestrians to smack right into it, face first. But it's a healthy looking tree other than that. We were wondering if it would be possible to remove the hazard and save the tree by uprooting it, turning it around, and then replanting it in the same spot. Or would we just kill the tree?

Can a 70-year-old dogwood tree that's grown at a severe angle be successfully replanted to face the other way?
I would ask an arborist if the following technique would work in your case, I used it on one of my apple trees. Cut the roots on the side the tree it leans toward. Then push the trunk into a more vertical position and stake it into position.. It doesn't have to be straight, just staight enough to miss faces. You then need to prune the tree to compensate for the root pruning. If you cut 30% of the roots trim 30% of the branches. RScott
Reply:I find it unlikely that a 70-year-old tree of any sort can be moved without seriously injuring or killing it. At the very least, it's going to require LOTS of money, and someone who knows what they're doing. Just remember that what's under the ground is almost certainly as big, if not bigger, than what's above ground. There has to be another way without killing it. As odd as it sounds, can you re-route the sidewalk so that it goes on the other side of the tree?? It would require permission from the city, I suspect, but it beats destroying an old and valuable tree.
Reply:I am not saying it can't be done but I really think it would damage the tree and it may die,why can't you just cut off that one branch? A 70 year old tree needs a landscaper to tell you for sure.
Reply:I doubt it can be successfully replanted without going into major shock. However, I would consult a certified arborist (check with a reputable nursery) or your county's extension office which could refer you to an arborist or a master gardner. Either one of these sources will either be able to answer your question or will be able to refer you to a true specialist who can best advise you.

Which Frank Sinatra song has the line "Your love is rain, my heart the flower, I need your love or I will die"

How do I build a nice flower bed next to my home?

If I build a flower bed next to my brick home do I need to line it somehow so it would not seep into the house? I plan to build it with landscaping bricks and fill with rocks and then soil on top. Should I put a waterproof liner under it to keep water away from my foundation? Any good websites there with good ideas?

How do I build a nice flower bed next to my home?
So long as the slope of your land doesn't go toward your house, it shouldn't be a problem. I have done a lot of landscaping in my landscape company and have never had anyone report back saying that water was a problem.

Why does the soil in my garden smell like dog urine and how do I get rid of it?

Its been many years since we had these big dogs here but the smell of them has never died. I weed my garden with my hands and then my hands then smell like dog piss.

Will line help? What can I do? The grass and flowers seem unaffected but I can't stand the smell

Help!

Why does the soil in my garden smell like dog urine and how do I get rid of it?
Bizarre. Lime might help the smell but would change the pH so much that it could possibly kill of the happy plants. Also as to lime, where does she live? Can't use lime here, but if her soil is acidic, as in the northeast, it's not such an issue.

Personally, I'd remove the plants to a temporary location and rework the soil, adding amendments. If all beds have this problem, I'd do each one in turn. She should also contact CES for suggestions, especially if using lime, she'd need to know what quantity per square foot would be adequate and safe.

CES is your Cooperative Extension Office. This is usually a department of a state university.

THANKS to jay k *Pens band wagoner for finding this question for me!
Reply:Well I would think the smell would be due to either your dog (if you have one) or a stray dog marking your garden as their own.

Getting rid of the urine smell doesn't have an easy fix. You can mix outdoor potting soil with the soil in your garden, that should cut some of the smell. Their are also products that can cut down the amonia in soil where pets relieve themselves to help gardens, but I'm not sure if they will cut down on the odor. You can go to your local hardware store into their gardening section and ask the nearest employee, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

And of course keep all dogs away from the garden.
Reply:I am making the assumption that you do not have any other dogs or cats that pay a "visit" to you garden. If that is the case, then you can try baking soda or vinegar. These are two items that you do not have to worry about poisoning the soil and/or ground water, as may be the case with other remedies.

Is it ok to send her flowers?

So I was shopping an found these beautiful flowers that would be perfect for my ex girlfriend.

The problem is that she is dating someone else and they both know that I am not over her.

We are friends and still live together and get a long, but I am wondering if it would be crossing the line to send her these flowers.

If so, what should I say on the card?

Is it ok to send her flowers?
don't send her them, your be embarresed if it backfires
Reply:I think I'd avoid sending her the flowers. It could make a currently awkward situation for her even worse, especially since you two are still living together. Her current boyfriend would be bound to see the flowers and question your intentions, even if you don't mean anything romantic by them. She may also think that you're coming onto her strongly with them, and that could put a strain on your friendship. The flowers are a nice thought, but I think overall it would worsen the situation. If you want to be noble and be a bigger man, and gain brownie points with both your ex and her current boyfriend, you could possibly tip him off. Good luck; I know this isn't an easy situation!
Reply:No, you shouldn't be sending her flowers nor be living with her... It's ridiculous... why would she still be living with you if she has no feelings? It's just... a weird game. Be careful!

Best of luck!

PS-- On the card put: MOVE OUT!!!
Reply:I wish my ex would send me flowers but that would be under different cirumstances. Do not send the flowers. You would regret it in the end.

Has anyone ever bought wedding flowers from rosesource.com?

I am looking into buying my wedding flowers from rosesource.com

I'm scared to buy on -line for the first time from a company I have never worked with, for such a special occasion. It would be a disaster if it didn't work. I would love to know ANY information about this company!!

Thank You!

Has anyone ever bought wedding flowers from rosesource.com?
Hi and congratulations!

You are in luck! YES, I ordered from them for my son's wedding! You can check under "comments" and my testamonial is still on their site: Gail B.

Anyway, like you, I was a nervous wreck...but they were so easy to work with and they gave me a time that they would arrive....say Thursday at 9:30 a.m., and, sure enough at 9:30 a.m. the Fed Ex truck pulled up! You are also able to track your shipment via Fed Ex tracking.

Are you buying flowers simply for the centerpieces or are you buying them to make up your bouquets?

The only thing.......it is SOOOOOO much work! I bought flowers strictly for the rehearsal dinner, church ceremony, and for centerpieces at the reception. I purchased 250 roses!! That's a lot of flowers! Anyway, it took me 2 1/2 hours to unpack them...cut the ends....put them in buckets of water with floral food.

Also....you CAN'T put them in a regular refrigerator. They tell you that in the instructions. Mine worked out perfectly because it was summer and we have an air-conditioned house. I kept them in my basement, which gets really cool with the AC on.

It's it scary....because, of course, when they are packed so tight they don't look the best when they arrive. Our shipment arrived on Thursday, my sister and I worked on them on Friday, and by Saturday (the day of the wedding), they looked great! We had lots of comments on them and we let people take them home after the reception!

So...if you have someone to help you, and you have a cool (or cold) area to keep them....it will work out great!!!

Good luck!
Reply:I haven't had experience with them but I did order my flowers online from www.theflowerexchange.com and they were amazing. They were in perfect condition when they arrived, they opened beautifully for the wedding and they lasted for over two weeks. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to order flowers online. In fact, I've ordered flowers for Thanksgiving from them.

I thought the link below might be helpful to you if you're doing your own flowers. It helped me a lot with tips.

Do black shoes REALLY go with anything ?

I have this grey dress that has a design on it with brown and silver lined flowers will it go with black shoes I don't have any silver shoes so don't wear the dress right ?

Do black shoes REALLY go with anything ?
go with colors of your dress! and DO NOT DO RED SHOES like that other girl said that will look awefull!!!!!!!!!! i would go with grey if that is the main color but do not do any other colors than the colors of your dress!

Good Luck! i hope i helped!
Reply:i would say no black shoes with that..

but if they are the only shoes that would be "acceptable" (like classy enough) try having a black necklace or something so it doesnt look as bad..

if you have no silver shoes get a brown shoe, it will look good! but if the black is the only option, try to accessorize with black :))
Reply:Black does go with everything ! It's just if you have an outfit, lets say all summer colors, you don't want to pair black leggings, but more of a white .. you just don't want to make a soft looking outfit look harsh by adding black, but it does match everything ! But in the dress its grey but already has brown and silver flowers, so your better off with a brown or silver shoe even though black still matches, just not as well ! You can still wear it, just not the best match for the dress. good luck
Reply:no, black shoes really DO NOT go with anything! Try red shoes... black and brown look awful!!!!!!!!
Reply:um say no 2 the black shoes....

go for grey or brown or silver
Reply:You could try white ballet shoes. That would be pretty. But get white metallic ones.
Reply:not with brown but anything else

it also depends on teh style

thick ones can't go with a summer dress or yellow
Reply:Not Brown.
Reply:No, black doesn't really go with pastels.
Reply:uh no to black, yes to silver flats...since the dress is sort of dark, the silver gives it the burst of color it needs .
Reply:Unless you are going for a job interview, wear whatever shoes you want. Screw outside opinions if they don't sign your paycheque.
Reply:wear the black shoes and bring the dress out by adding a black purse with silver on it or just a jazzy one along with a necklace and bracelet , it works all the time
Reply:1] normally, I would say black does not go with brown.

2] A gray dress with brown and silver would look best with

a] gray

b] silver

c] black - then add some silver jewelry.
Reply:I don't think black goes with brown.
Reply:never wear black with brown. fashion taboo and ugly. i think you should just go buy some cheap silver sandals. they can be worn with many things and it would be a good multi outfit item.

and black doesnt go with everything. actually it doesnt go with a lot of things. true, its a neutral color so it goes with more colors than say, brown, but not everything.

good luck!

Where to get a custom flower arrangement?

I'm not going for looks so much, but as thought behind it as these are her favorite flowers, and from any of the online flower places (1800, ftd, etc) they are only sold as pre-set arrangements. Would a local florist be able to provide me with some random flowers for me to arrange myself, or do they always sell pre-set arrangements?

I'm going for:

Forget me Not

Tulips

Orchids

Lily of the Valley

Are these common enough to find at any florist, or are these out of line?

Contact your local florist,

they will be able to order these flowers for you in any amount.

just be prepared to pay. Try your local green houses and your large grocery stores, most have a flower section

Wat can i do in my flower bed to prevent weeds from growing through?

i have a small area in front of my home that i want to plant flowers. right now it is full of dirt and weeds and i want to plant them without the hassle of digging up weeds constantly. what's the best way ? i've heard of using newspapers to line it with but i dont know. any suggestions ?

Wat can i do in my flower bed to prevent weeds from growing through?
You can buy landscape fabric in a roll and put it down.

**
Reply:I had a beautiful floral garden last year. This was my first attempt at gardening. I laborously pulled up all the weeds down to the roots, removed the rocks and stones, and I also pulled up the grass. I did not want to have to cut a lot of grass. After that I turned over the soil, added some top soil with fertilizer and planted my flowers, and bulbs. I then got some regular black garbage bags and split them open. I covered all of the soil with plastic and then I put some bags of red mulch on top. I poked a few holes around my plants and I made sure there was mulch around my plants and seedlings.

I never saw another weed. Those dandelion roots are big and tough. I got so many compliements on my garden. I tried to use a blend of colors and flowers that were annuals and perennials.

The plastic may not be enviro friendly, but I knew it wouldn't allow any sunlight in for the pesty weeds to poke their heads up.

Good luck to you on your garden.
Reply:Weeding needs to be simply put a necessity, barriers across the ground is a good start and I like the newpapers (recycling) myself with a think layer of mulch, I have had the best luck with about a 4 inch layer of a product called soil conditioner. Yes I do still have to do some weeding a couple times throughout the year but with airborne weed seeds this is a common occurance, you may stop the weeds that may already be there but there are more of them to find their way to your clean new planting bed. A good thing is that they are much easier to remove from a worked area than say a lawn type area. The mulch will decompose and create pockets of rich organics that weed seeds love. The dark coloring of the soil conditioner also solorizes the soil cooking some of the weeds seeds before they have a chance to germinate, as well as protecting thengs in cooler times of the year. You will have to reapply in the future it become sort of a ritual thing at least once a year here at my house in the spring, till in the old, and renew. If you want to cut costs on your mulch see what your local tree service does with all their tree shreddings/chippings, you may get it for free, I do.1 truckload a year. There is also a newer produce made from chipped/recycled tires/rubber products, may last longer and lessen weeds further since it in not organic whatsoever, I think it comes in colors also. But this has to be removed to work the soil from year to year, I would not incorporate this into my soil.

Oh well hope this helps
Reply:any home and garden supply store will carry a cloth that is black and will kill the weeds that are currently there and prevent new ones from growing. just roll it out and pin it down then cut a hole where you wish to put your flowers and when you are finished you can cover the whole bed with wood chips or my favorite is river stone
Reply:Turn over your soil and smooth it flat. Lay 3-4 layers of newspapers on the ground and then cut 6-inch holes in the paper for every plant and put your flowers in the soil. Cover the newspaper with 4 inches of shredded cypress mulch. Water the flowers well. the newspaper will keep weed seeds from sprouting and smother any living weeds that didn't die when you turned over your soil.
Reply:you can buy mesh screen from a hardware store like lowes or home dumbo or you can use newspaper. the newspaper is great and is bio-friendly. eventually weeds will come throught the newspaper, but it would be by the end of the season.
Reply:I've always had very good luck with wood chip mulch. Every so often one gets through, but if you have 2 or 3 inches of the stuff, not enough light gets through for germination of seed.

Funeral Flowers/Plants ?

I am trying to figure out what kind of flowers/plants I should get for a funeral. It was for a stillborn baby boy. I was thinking along the lines of yellow or light blue colors flowering plant this way it won't die as fresh cut flowers do.

Funeral Flowers/Plants ?
Hi! I think yellow and light blue sounds like nice colors. Actually anything pastel colored would be appropriate for a child. I would first make sure that the plant can be useful to them. The previous answerer is right that some people don't know to take their flowers and plants with them because I know a lot about florist business and they recycle what is unknowingly left behind and even 'resale' the same plants and usually reuse the fresh cut flowers in other sprays and arrangements. It's not right but they do it all the time.

Anyhow, I think the idea of a plant is very logical and thoughtful. Especially if it a beautiful flowering plant like mums or daisies because they are attractive in any place. I really feel for the parents, I can only imagine how devastated they must be.
Reply:how awful for the family.

I think plants are nice, whethter flowering or not. They always have something to remember your thoughtfulness. Report It

Reply:That's what I would do. Yellow.
Reply:Its the thought that counts. Something yellow, that way it won't be obvious - blue for a boy. A plant would be nice - as long as the family knows enough to ask the funeral director to take it home. Sometimes they just toss them. Or they could be donated to a nursing home.

Wedding cake fondant flowers??
Use a cake topper at the top of the cake. This way you don't have to do anything to intricate at the top. Just look at different wedding cakes/bakery websites and try to find a design you like...or several designs that you can mesh together.

Here is what I was able to find in regards to making the fondant flowers:

I hope that this helps! Good luck :)
Reply:Have you done flowers before? Because from the sounds of it you haven't - and if that is the case you would be unlikely to ever make them look good. Icing flowers take an awful lot of time and practice. My father used to make them so he knows... he can't make them any more because he hasn't kept it up. It is extremely hard to do because you have to have the fondant at just the right texture and have to be quick so it doesn't dry out and crack... so much hassle.

I would suggest you just go and buy some from an icing/cake shop. It could end up looking really 2nd rate otherwise. (Sorry to be so blunt but I have tried making them and know a lot of people who are good at icing cakes and they still find it hard)
Reply:I suggest Roses or Calla Lillies. Look on www.cakecentral.com or www.wilton.com for more info.

Short of making your own flowers there are plenty of websites like this one http://www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/...

that sell ready made flowers. However to make the flowers you need I suggest using gumpaste, or even a 50-50 fondant/gumpaste mix.

Check out the Wilton kit http://www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/...
Reply:Hi there, try Youtube or if you dont want to actually make them then try ebay, i bought some calla lillies cake toppers from on there, sugar icing ones, they were gorgeous and didnt cost an obscene amount of money. Your cake sounds gorgeous by the way, im having a silver and green themed wedding.

Good luck

From what I can tell, gum paste is easier to work with with regards to decorative items such as flowers and they also tend to be more realistic since you can roll it thinner. There are TONS of how-to's online regarding gum-paste flowers...
Reply:I bought mine and they looked adorable on my cupcakes. I'll list the site below. I bought fondant ones but they were hard when i got them so guests were told not to eat them. Instead several people took them home because they loved them.
Reply:Go to JoAnn or Michael's or another craft store and see if they have clsses you can take or books you can read about the flowers.
Reply:The Wilton web site www.wilton.com has a section on fondant how to make flower (with pic's) as well as other thing this is were i learned to make my flower off of and i sell cakes part time. Good Luck

No, you were not possessed by the ghost of Shakespeare.

However, you possibly could be the re-carnation of Shakespeare, or how some of his blood running in your veins.

Another possibility is that you are the re-carnation of another poet, whether famous or not, or how some poet blood.

OR...(I hope this is it) that you just have a natural talent for poetry!
Reply:nah sounds to modern and "hip".
Reply:WOW! If you weren't, Shakespeare would be proud of what you've written.

Any creative ideas for watering my garden?

I have a rather big garden, I have a butterfly and hummingbird garden, a veggie garden, and my kids have their own garden, not to mention the 3 rose bushes that line the garage and random flowers and plants around the perimeter of the yard. I feel like I am wasting water. I set my sprinkler up in each area for 20 minutes, that is almost 2 hours of watering! I love my garden but I would like to conserve water. I cannot afford anything too expensive. Does anyone know of any easy yet practical ways to achieve proper watering while still conserving?

Any creative ideas for watering my garden?
You might try running soaker hoses through the gardens. That way the water is getting only to where you need it. I have ours set up with a "splitter" type thing at the main spigot. From that I have regular garden hose running just to the area I want watered, and then the soaker hose connected at that point and arranged around the items that need to be watered. It is best to water deeply and less frequently. That will encourage the roots to run deep into the ground where they will not dry as quickly. If you water more often but in smaller amounts, the roots tend to come to the surface and dry out easier.
Reply:Sprinklers do waste water. Better to use soaker hoases. You can leave them there all season and it delivers the water to exactly the spot where it's needed.
Reply:For most vegetables, shrubs, flowers and trees, there is nothing better than a drip system. It may be a royal pain to do the first time, and may require several trips back and forth to the nursery or home %26amp; garden center to get all the component parts that you need for your specific layout, but over time, you will be so glad that you did it. And, then expanding your watering system will be much easier.

There are several books, pamphlets, and brochures on putting in a drip system. Key to the whole layout is buying a "Y" connector for the water faucet that you are going to use, one of the arms of the "Y" connector dedicated to the drip system and the other for hose use. (It took me a few hours to figure that out - and it wasn't in "the manual".)

It takes a little work and patience to figure out how to punch the holes in the black tubing to set the drippers in, but you'll get the hang of it. Be sure to buy several packages of the "hole repair" plugs so that you can seal up any holes that you make by mistake.

Ideally, find someone that has a lot of experience with a drip system in your neighborhood. They can save you a bundle of time and money by showing you what works best in your area.

Drip systems do not work very well at all for lawns or turf, although their are special sprinklers and other accessories that would lead you to believe that they might work for that.

Your drip system can cut your water bill literally in half. In very hot weather, you may need to run your drip system every day or every other day for an hour or more at a time. But, then after rains and in cloudy weather, you can cut back to once a week.

One important piece is the pressure regulator. Don't overlook that piece, especially if you have high water pressure.

That's all I can think of right now. Hope that's helpful.
Reply:I would add rain barrels to your property at every downspout on your house. That way you can get your water from them as much as possible, and only use your well water when the barrels have run dry. If the barrels are above the garden they can still be hooked to the hose system and gravity will take care of the delivery.
Reply:I think the drip mist or drip method is the best for conserving yet giving significant moisture to plants to live and grow. Ask your local Armstrong or nursery center for which is best for where you live. I've seen cactus in the desert grow with great speed. I think the key is watering early in the morning and in the evening, too.
Reply:Simple soaker hose and garden hose irrigation: Using an old garden hose, cut the hose, insert "T" connections with splice kit, install soaker at each T to run the length of your garden. T's and repair splices are available at WalMart, very inexpensive. You'll end up with soakers perpendicular to hose. Contact my avatar for more detail, if you wish.

good luck
Reply:wi hit it on the head she knows what shes talkin about .take her advice.
Reply:I built my raised garden over my sprinklers. 4X4X2' deep.

The sprinklers come on automatically so I can be worry free.

(sprinkler in the middle). The overspray takes care of the outside area.
Reply:It may seem expensive now but there are some good irrigation outfits that can set u up with a system that will conserve on water and eventually save u money. I do irrigation in Minnesota(mnirrigation) and we use a system which is called netifilm which is a very Persis drip hose. also could use misters insted of sprays to cut down. try asking a local outfit to set u up with a system that you can hook up to your hose with no electronics. which could be alot cheaper. but then you will have to regulate the water yourself. its nice to have the state of mind that your plants or yard is being watered on schedule and for an exact amount of time programed. you can program a set amount of water per week. u also can have a direct inject fertilizer(fertigater) they even have units that monitor wind, rain and frost to regulate the program plus with drip the city can see when you water.

they have odd \ even bans in minn.

What song is this and who sings it?..."don't pick the flowers children..."?

"don't let the children pick the flowers" or "don't pick the flowers children" (I think the latter is correct) is unfortunately all I can remember. The song is by a male, and it is not a stupid song despite how that one line may sound/look. Any help will be greatly appreciated:D

Me and (G) brother saw some (C) flowers, (D) growing by the parson’s (G) gate

Mama said don’t pick the (C) flowers boys, they’re (D) not for (D7) us to (G) take

Then a voice from in the (C) garden, made us (D) turn around and (G) stare

We saw an old, old (C) lady, ([A]) sittin’ in a rocking (D) chair

And when (G) she got up to (C) come our way, we (D) knew she couldn’t (G) see

She said let them pick the (C) flowers, that’s their (D) way of (D7) lovin’ (G) me

Chorus

Let the children pick the (C) flowers, let them (D) see the beauty (G) there

Let them study God’s cre-(C)-ations, that were ([A]) grown with love and (D) care

Let the (G) children pick the (C) flowers, that’s what (D) God’s own words would (G) be

*(G) Let the little one’s pick the (C) flowers, that’s their (D) way of (D7) lovin’ (G) me

Instrumental: Follow pattern of last line of Chorus *

Have you ever really (C) wondered, what are (D) flowers growing (G) for

Maybe God made them for (C) children, just to ([A]) pick forever (D) more

For as (G) long as Roses (C) bramble, and they (D) need the morning (G) dew

Let the children pick the (C) flowers, that’s their (D) way of (D7) lovin’ (G) you

Let the children pick the (C) flowers, that’s what (D) God’s own words would (G) be

Do women like to receive flowers on the very first date?

I met someone on line and we are having our first date tonight. I am considering presenting her with a bouquet of flowers.

Do women like to receive flowers on the very first date?
Flowers are always nice but don't over do it. A dozen red roses would be over doing it. Just a bouquet of pretty non rose type flowers will be nice.

However, is this something you would do in a relationship? Are you trying to impress someone by doing something you will stop doing once you are involved?

Don't TRY to impress anyone... just be yourself. If you are "trying" to impress then it won't work. You will just come across as someone who is insecure trying to be impressive.
Reply:Don't do it bud. She'll think you're a desperate loser. Save your money to buy her a nice dinner so you can get laid.
Reply:most women probably do, but i'm not a flowers person
Reply:yes you want to do that its the nicest thing to do, but dont expect anything in return
Reply:Yes, that would be lovely, have a great time.
Reply:I'LL TELL U THE WAY I TOLD MY BOYFRIEND, WOMEN LIKE TO FEEL SPECIAL,EVERY MAN- IN A TYPICAL DATE GIVES FLOWERS, GO PICK UP A CARD OR SOMETHING AND TELL HER THANKS FOR ALLOWING YOU TO SPEND TIME WITH HER, SHE WILL MORE THAN LIKELY LOVE THAT GESTURE. IT'S OK TO GIVE HER FLOWERS, JUST DO SOMETHING A LIL BIT DIFFERENT ALONE WITH IT.
Reply:yeah, that'd be a nice gesture
Reply:Definitely. I love it when a guy had nice surprises like that for me. Makes me feel so special.
Reply:Not the first date. Get her some on the second date. Then she will know you got them after you met her AND liked her!
Reply:I would say yes. My first date, my boyfriend got me flower and chocolate.
Reply:It depense on the woman if she likes things bright and colorful she may like flowers.
Reply:do it ! it's safe and not to pushy just say

" hey i was thinking about you"
Reply:one rose only,, to prove she is the only one, if you get her 12 ,herr chance to be replaced 12 times or she is # 12 freaky isn't????
Reply:I enjoy receiving flowers ... it's a sweet gesture and shows me the man has a romantic side to him ( or his mommy taught him well ) ... I personally would rather receive flowers after the date ... like the next day at my work or something saying how much fun you had with me and can't wait for the next one ... I guess that's only if we hit it off ... lol ... !
Reply:Might put too much pressure on a first date. One flower would have more impact than something like a bouquet or, god help you, a box of chocolates.
Reply:Flowers are a great bonus and it shows that your not cheap and that your thoughtful. Shoot anything a guy buys for a woman is a bonus!! Not saying we're gold diggers, it just shows that you can take care of us girls and treat women like a princess. Ok that is kinda gold digging, just buy her the dang flowers!! =P
Reply:Very nice! I am sure she will like it.
Reply:That is a really good idea,(coming from a girl) Flowers on a first date is one hell of a good impression!!!!
Reply:most women like flowers period, anytime, but when it comes to a first date, then it shows genuine interest and if makes us feel special that you took the time to go out and get flowers
