Are there any kinds of plants and flowers could I grow for the birds?

This morning as I was looking out my kitchen window, I was watching the birds hunting for the remainder of the food on the ground where the feeder had been.

I was wondering what they eat naturally and if I could grow something for them. We live in Pennsylvania.Would any one have any suggestions for me?

My Mom used to feed the birds in the summer and there were way to many birds. They would line up on the lines above waiting for food, so I figure that this may not be too good for them or my wallet either.

Are there any kinds of plants and flowers could I grow for the birds?
Hello,

We grow sunflowers for the birds, easy!

My mr takes care of the outside and to bad he was not hear he is from your state and would know much more then I what grows over there...

He put lilac bushes out there for the birds to hide and nest in. We do get the gurnys (sp) catalog and it tells what plants are good for birds. He puts in many wild flowers too. I love birds so we too are always looking for plants that are bird friendly. The birds keep the bugs down too!

Good luck and great question!!
Reply:Absolutely - many people landscape their yards with birds and butterflies in mind, and there are many resources online to help you identify the plants and flowers that will attract birds and butterflies. You can plant as many or as few as you desire and have room for:

There are so many more sites - you can do a web search for plants that attract birds, or landscaping for birds. You could also go to your local garden center and find plants that grow well in your growing region that will attract your feathered friends.
