What is the best fertilizer for hibiscus plants, and is it ok to apply now in Florida?

My 24 hibiscus plants are about 8 months old and about 3-4 ft. high. The dozen on the West end of the fence line is thriving, but the plants on the East side of the fence look puny and have few leaves or flowers. Not sure why...

Check for small fuzzy white or pink bugs in the stem and leaf junctions. You may have mealie bugs in the ones that are not thriving. It may also be due to poor light. Are the sickly ones in different light?

Use Lesco 13-24-6 with micros. It's great stuff. You buy it at Lesco Distribution Centers. They sell mostly to landscapers but they will sell to the public.

What's a good vine to plant in my backyard to grow on a fence?

Here's the deal. I'm looking for a vine to plant in my back yard that will grow on my fence. Preferably one with colorful flowers for most if not all of the year. I live in New Orleans, so it's usually pretty friggin hot, although it gets into the 40's and 50's for a few months. My yard is paved, so I will have to line the perimeter with potted soil (maybe I could find long rectangular pots) and the vine would grow upwards all over the fence. Any recommendations would be helpful. Also, I'm trying to get into gardening. It'd be great if someone could recommend a website that tells you which plants are ideal for growing in certain areas, and which are low/high maintenance. Thanks!

Reply:You don't say whether it's a shade or sun area, but clematis usually does well in both, and it comes back every year. The flowers are usually purple, very pretty and showy, and it's easy to care for.

And hgtv.com usually has some good tips.
Reply:Clematis...if you buy a few plants paying attention to the start and end of there blooming cycle, you could have nice flowers from spring through fall.
Reply:A climbing rose would be a great choice but one with lots of extra work. I like wisteria but it is your choice Caution--growing this large of plant from a container will extra work no matter the choice so think this through if you are thinking low maintenance.

a fairly evergreen (changes color with season)

evergreen clematis or confederate (star) jasmine

you can mix annual vines (which may cause you to have undue clean up problems later)

or add something like an old tyme climbing rose

this mix will have fragrance as well as year long coverage.

the main pruning I have done to these plantings together is to run a hedge trimmer to make an edge, then rake and discard plant litter.

What color nail polish would you wear with a black and white dress with red accents?

I have a fabulous summer dress, it's an A-line with a bold black and white floral pattern. The dress also has bright red accents in some of the flowers. I'm planning on getting matching bright red strappy sandals and probably a bold set of jewelry that highlights the red. Is red nail polish going overboard on the red? (I think so.) But what color do you do for the mani/pedi - I don't want it to clash with the red shoes.

I think I might go with red nail polish myself, but if you honestly think that you'd be going overboard, trust your intuition and opt for a french manicure/pedicure. This will pretty much go with anything and (when done well) is classically elegant.

But, if you're afraid red might be going overboard, try a french manicure. Black could also be really cute, if you aren't too afraid of that. Also, clear is nice. How or where can I identify a unique flowered plant that was found growing wild in woods behind my home?

Has 2 big oval shaped green leaves at bottom of plant. A green stem approx.10-12" comes up out of this. At top of stem is the unusal looking pink flower. It droops down, kinda like a foxglove or lenden rose grows.Has 1-2 very small green leaves at its base. Flower part is shaped sorta like a cornucopia with a small opening buried right in its center. It is pink, with deeper pink, or even purplish distinct viens within the petal. Appears to be only made up of 1 petal that is folded in on itself. There are about 10-12 growing all in same area of deep woods. Some appear to be growing in a line of about 4-5. One other detail about the flower area; In between the actual flower and small green leaves' on both sides tucked up in there, appears to be a white berry, reminds me of a miseltoe berry. Can't locate anyone or any source who can definately tell me what this is. I have not ever seen a flower like this before, it is very different looking. I want to try and transplant a few to my yard.

Never less I would like to comment about your plans on digging it and transplanting to your yard.Digging wildflowers often contributes more to their destruction than conservation. Please "love 'em and leave 'em. Many states have laws on picking or digging wildflowers on both private and/or state land. Few wildflowers survive transplanting and many others are sacrificed for the ones that do survive. Nature grows these natural gardens so that we may enjoy them not destroy them.

Leave badly stained cut glass over night in a mixture of water , detergent and a few drops of ammonia. To remove lime deposits, fill the glass vase with distilled water, leave for a week, then gently remove the crust with a toothbrush. Here´s a little bit more information for you. If glassware such as a decanter becomes stained inside, put a tablespoon of silver sand , obtainable from a garden shop, and a week solution of warm water and liquid detergent. Swill the contents round, but check frequently that the glass is not being scratched. Hope this helps a little

A man just put a house trailer in the front of our house and I'm wanting a privacy fence, tree or shrub to hide it from out view. We do not want any thing that has berries or flowers. It can not spread wide we have to watch the property line and I do not want the tree or shrub to take over what little front yard I have. I live in southeast ohio. Partial shade/ sun. It would be a wind breaker too. We live on top of a hill.

Reply:I would consider Thuja plicata - the western arborvitae. This is a fast growing narrow evergreen with deer resistance. It is much faster growing than easter arborvitae (white cedar). Why are people so uptight when it comes to gardening?

So many people want their gardens so perfect, everything in line, and every living thing besides the plants that were planted there dead. My garden is completely the opposite. My garden is beautiful and vibrant, and a habitat for several living creatures. I have 6 Dyanthis, 3 Cana Lilies, Carrots, Tomatoes, Radishes, Queen Anne's Lace, Morning Glories, Some sort of purple flower, peas, beans, Sunflowers, and even a single Corn Stalk! Some of those things were planted last spring, but many of them-like the tomatoes, Queen Anne's Lace, and the plant with purple flowers just decided to live there. It's one of my greatest joys, and I can't understand why people slave every day so that their gardens are absolutely perfect. Plants weren't made to be perfect. They were made to be unique. Gardens aren't only for humans to enjoy. Why can't many people understand that?

Why are people so uptight when it comes to gardening?
I think this comes from the conditioning that went on in the 50's to have "the perfect home". Like on all the shows from that time period everyone was all about having the perfect living room, and the perfect kitchen, and everything was so neat and orderly. And that's when all sorts of chemicals started to come in to the scene to help make your grass super green and keep the "pests" away.

We just have this idea burned into our brains now about how things are supposed to be from these companies and our parents.

Another point I think is that humans have tried to put themselves above nature and so that means having a perfectly manicured yard (or home) somehow means we're better than nature. We've forgotten our roots and our place on this planet.

I say go wild and screw all those uptight people who've forgotten how to enjoy nature!!!!
Reply:i agree w/you i plant everythingg a rowof flowers a row i veggies.i dont use any herbcides or insecticides i let nature do her thing and i always have plenty of food comming out of the garden.my neighbor manicures his garden %26amp; i'm always giving them food out of my garden.i prepare a 2ftwide bed for my flowers and just sow the flower seed from the flowers that i have grown and let dry out over the winter.i mix all the seed together and guess what i have better flowers than my neighbors who buy their seed .this fall i have broclic and romaine lettuce to set out for my winter garden ..
Reply:Maybe that is how they enjoy them: growing challenging plants. Why do you criticize? You don't have to do it and apparently don't; so be happy.
Reply:Some people are obsessive compulsive(they can't help it) and it shows in everything they do .I know ,I'm married to one. Your garden sounds like mine. I call the plants that just grow on their own, gifts from nature. I have a small tree that grows wild in the open areas and I pruned it as it grew and it is the most beautiful shape.It has berries on it in the fall and is a natural bird feeder, and provides us with shade in the hot summer. I have perennials mostly,all different shapes and colours. Every season looks different. Most flowers are derived from wild flowers and they aren't colour co-ordinated in the wild. just keep on doing what you enjoy and the birds and butterflies will come to visit every year.

I love the natural look, but I must confess I also like the more formal gardens too. It's just a matter of taste, and certainly not a misunderstanding on anyone's part. That's the great thing about plants.... they certainly CAN be perfect if you want them to be... or they can be casual, or fancy, or shaped into animals, or overgrown with wild abandon!

Reply:People want to create and control their little world with their garden. It's a creative outlet and everyone has a different point of view about what's nice and pretty and ugly.
Reply:Well, I for one am not uptight about gardening. I do have a problem with symmetry, but I am working to control the urge to make everything symmetrical. Lately, I've been purchasing only one plant at a time and just putting it in an empty spot and it seems to be working well. Now I finally have a cottage garden which I've always wanted. However, having said that, I also appreciate the well groomed and manicured formal gardens, but I wouldn't want to picnic there. Maybe read some Chaucer or something. Anyhow, I imagine that, like myself, most gardeners look at their garden as a work of art and either they are impressionistic like you, me, and RScott ;) or they are traditional or contemporary and like things neat and orderly and that is where they get their enjoyment. It's all just a matter of preference and each individual style deserves respect.

Reply:I like you already !! I too am amazed at how many people are determined to drive round plants into square holes using every chemical known to man to "nuke" them into submission. When I try to describe my gardens, I tell people to imagine a beautiful English country cottage garden and the gardener has been dead for a couple years. That said, I'm not above using science to achieve my tangled look. It's fun to bury a little electrical heating tape to the root zone of a zone 6 plant here in zone 4 just to make people think my thumb is greener than it is. We have talked on line and on the phone. we met in person today for lunch, and spent the whole afternoon toghter. It went great ! I know she's gonna be my girlfriend, the chemistry was there! We have made plans to see each other on saturday early like 3:30pm. Should I take her flowers or just show up? I don;t want to come off pushy..yet she's very reseptive toeverytning so far.

If I were her, I would love flowers. That sounds so thoughtful and sweet, not to mention a pretty gift to look at!

Reply:What a romantic thing to do! Picture it! She's dressed and waiting, listening for your knock. She hears you, opens the door, and is surprised and delighted at your flowery tribute. She gives you a smile you'd walk a mile for, you hand her the blossoms, and -- then what?

There she stands, all dressed and ready to go out, stuck with a handful of drippy cut flowers. Unless there is someone else in her home willing to deal with the messy thing, she is IT. Perhaps she had planned on leaving immediately, but now she must either invite you in or leave you on the doorstep while she at the very least finds some sort of container suitable for keeping your gift in water for several hours. If she wants to actually put the things in a vase, she's has quite a little task before her.

I'm sure you see my point. Get a cheap vase at a Salvation Army or 99 Cent store, prepare the flowers yourself, and hand her a ready to display vase. Now THAT shows you to be a thoughtful fellow, something a lady values much more than a fellow who is merely willing to drop a few bucks at a flower stall.

I just moved into my very first apartment and really need ideas decorating! I really love the color red and wanted some sort of theme. I don't have much money so the stuff has to be cheap! Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions, links to products would be especially helpful! I was thinking things along the lines of some nice framed art, flowers, some pillows, things like that... I am not saying this in a disrespectful way, but it is always good to experience the first flutters of freedom. I am assuming that you are still young, so be adventurous and decorate your apartment in any way you please, without sticking to any rules or regulations. Do it while you can, because once someone moves in with you, or you go into a relationship, then the apartment won't be your own private space anymore and you will have to share space and opinion. If you secretly find out what her favorite type of flowers are and show up with them you may be promoted to god-status. Best flowering tree / shrub for a small planter box?

I have a small planter box that runs the length of my back yard. It is only about a foot to a foot and a half wide. I am trying to figure out what would be best to plant in there. I'd like to get some kind of a flowering bush or small tree to line the planter. It doesnt get alot of sun, mostly late afternoon and early evening sun. I just want to put some color in there but need something with a little bit of hieght to it...

There are a number of dwarf forms that would do well in containers. Phormiums from New Zealand like 'Platt's Black,' with narrow leaves and near-black spiky blades can add the height with a strong punctuation.

If you like hardy fushias, they can offer vivid color in a graceful flowing form.

Dwarf rhododendrons, often alpine species, are solid year round elements that offer color in spring.

Include a layer of small bulbs to start the growing seson then fill with annuals as needed.

Reply:I'm not sure what part of the country you live in, but Abutillon (flowering maple) are great. They come all colors (white, burgandy, orange, red, yellow, pink). They don't require a lot of sun or a lot of care and they can flower ALL YEAR LONG. The flowers are bell shaped lanterns. The shrubs will adapt to the size of their habitiat. I have some that are only 3-4 ft tall and some that are 10ft tall and 4 ft wide.

Is there any other mark at all? I have a couple of Royal Doulton vases from about 1905 which have a very faint Royal Doulton stamp and very clear initials. I looked for the initials and couldn't find them, then realised I'd overlooked the stamp.

Reply:Living in Stoke-on-Trent, the home of the Potteries, the initials don't sound familiar.

Do you have any idea of the age of the piece, as many small pottery firms went out of business in the post-war period.

The two other possibilities are that it is a piece of St. Ives pottery, or that it is the mark of an individual potter rather than a pottery firm.

Please let me know if you find anything more out.

I have it along my fence line and no plants or flowers are growing there, just this poison. Can I spray bleach or ammonia on the plants and kill this poison off??

bleach is one of the great scourges of human invention so try vinegar, worked for me so would salt. and, btw ammonia is a fertilizer!!!!!LOL's
Reply:Can't speak for bleach, but ammonia converts to nitrogen, and will make it grow more.
Reply:24-D ester is a broad leaf killer. You can try that in one of those hose sprayer deals. I would do a micture of two teaspoons ( the sprayer should do it for you.) 24-D should be available at your local farm supply.
Reply:If it gets on you, you can do the following:

Ammonia neutralizes urushiol. In a spray bottle, mix one part household ammonia to ten parts water. Spray your skin and clothes before going into areas with poison ivy. Also spray yourself immediately after contact. Allow to dry thoroughly before washing up. When used within 20 minutes of exposure it is effective in preventing the rash. It does not work on established rashes.

I you accidentally come in contact with leaves or vines mix one part Chlorox to 10 parts water and take a sponge bath to neutralize the oil on belt, shoes, and you. All other items of clothing go in the washing machine with a standard laundry soap. If you follow this formula within a half hour of exposure you save all the agony and avoid itch, blisters, and searching the net for remedies. .

Something like "roundup" will kill the plants. After they are dead you should stay cautious of residual oil.

toxic. Even using one then the other can cause fumes.

Vinegar will kill weeds and grass, but I don't know about

poison ivy or oak. Give it a try. It may work, but might

take a few days to really kill the stuff. Pour some more on

Good news, it's safe and cheap!

Last ditch effort, go to the garden store and get the

real stuff. It's worth it.

Reply:I would think maybe some actual research is called for here. I would want to be sure. I would imagine bleach or ammonia could be harmful to any wildlife. Go to a place that sells those products and ask.
Reply:I have my doubts ammonia, bleach or vinegar will do much good. Herbicides such as Garlon or Crossbow work great when used earlier in the year. I have had great luck with Crossbow! As with any product, follow the directions.

In our older neighborhood there are beautiful pink and white flowering dogwood trees that have lined the streets for decades. They're regularly spaced in a four-foot wide grassy area between the street and sidewalk, two in front of each house. They're all between twelve to fifteen feet tall. The trunk of one of my neighbor's trees has grown at a very strange angle, about 60 degrees, I'd guess, and it's the only tree on the block that's done so. At a height of about five feet, the trunk is now, literally, at the middle of the sidewalk, and then from that point it goes straight upward. That 'elbow' of the trunk is at just the right height for unobservant and distracted pedestrians to smack right into it, face first. But it's a healthy looking tree other than that. We were wondering if it would be possible to remove the hazard and save the tree by uprooting it, turning it around, and then replanting it in the same spot. Or would we just kill the tree?

I would ask an arborist if the following technique would work in your case, I used it on one of my apple trees. Cut the roots on the side the tree it leans toward. Then push the trunk into a more vertical position and stake it into position.. It doesn't have to be straight, just staight enough to miss faces. You then need to prune the tree to compensate for the root pruning. If you cut 30% of the roots trim 30% of the branches. RScott
Reply:I find it unlikely that a 70-year-old tree of any sort can be moved without seriously injuring or killing it. At the very least, it's going to require LOTS of money, and someone who knows what they're doing. Just remember that what's under the ground is almost certainly as big, if not bigger, than what's above ground. There has to be another way without killing it. As odd as it sounds, can you re-route the sidewalk so that it goes on the other side of the tree?? It would require permission from the city, I suspect, but it beats destroying an old and valuable tree.
Reply:I am not saying it can't be done but I really think it would damage the tree and it may die,why can't you just cut off that one branch? A 70 year old tree needs a landscaper to tell you for sure.

However, I would consult a certified arborist (check with a reputable nursery) or your county's extension office which could refer you to an arborist or a master gardner. Either one of these sources will either be able to answer your question or will be able to refer you to a true specialist who can best advise you.

If I build a flower bed next to my brick home do I need to line it somehow so it would not seep into the house? I plan to build it with landscaping bricks and fill with rocks and then soil on top. Should I put a waterproof liner under it to keep water away from my foundation? Any good websites there with good ideas?

So long as the slope of your land doesn't go toward your house, it shouldn't be a problem. I have done a lot of landscaping in my landscape company and have never had anyone report back saying that water was a problem.

Bizarre. Lime might help the smell but would change the pH so much that it could possibly kill of the happy plants. Also as to lime, where does she live? Can't use lime here, but if her soil is acidic, as in the northeast, it's not such an issue.

Personally, I'd remove the plants to a temporary location and rework the soil, adding amendments. If all beds have this problem, I'd do each one in turn. She should also contact CES for suggestions, especially if using lime, she'd need to know what quantity per square foot would be adequate and safe.

Reply:Well I would think the smell would be due to either your dog (if you have one) or a stray dog marking your garden as their own.

Getting rid of the urine smell doesn't have an easy fix. You can mix outdoor potting soil with the soil in your garden, that should cut some of the smell. Their are also products that can cut down the amonia in soil where pets relieve themselves to help gardens, but I'm not sure if they will cut down on the odor. You can go to your local hardware store into their gardening section and ask the nearest employee, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

And of course keep all dogs away from the garden.
Reply:I am making the assumption that you do not have any other dogs or cats that pay a "visit" to you garden. If that is the case, then you can try baking soda or vinegar. These are two items that you do not have to worry about poisoning the soil and/or ground water, as may be the case with other remedies.

Reply:I think I'd avoid sending her the flowers. It could make a currently awkward situation for her even worse, especially since you two are still living together. Her current boyfriend would be bound to see the flowers and question your intentions, even if you don't mean anything romantic by them. She may also think that you're coming onto her strongly with them, and that could put a strain on your friendship. The flowers are a nice thought, but I think overall it would worsen the situation. If you want to be noble and be a bigger man, and gain brownie points with both your ex and her current boyfriend, you could possibly tip him off. Good luck; I know this isn't an easy situation!

The only thing.......it is SOOOOOO much work! I bought flowers strictly for the rehearsal dinner, church ceremony, and for centerpieces at the reception. I purchased 250 roses!! That's a lot of flowers! Anyway, it took me 2 1/2 hours to unpack them...cut the ends....put them in buckets of water with floral food.

Also....you CAN'T put them in a regular refrigerator. They tell you that in the instructions. Mine worked out perfectly because it was summer and we have an air-conditioned house. I kept them in my basement, which gets really cool with the AC on.

It's it scary....because, of course, when they are packed so tight they don't look the best when they arrive. Our shipment arrived on Thursday, my sister and I worked on them on Friday, and by Saturday (the day of the wedding), they looked great! We had lots of comments on them and we let people take them home after the reception!

So...if you have someone to help you, and you have a cool (or cold) area to keep them....it will work out great!!!

I live in Brooklyn NY and there is this beautiful big green leaf tree and it now, since the weather is warm, small white flowers have bloomed.

The leaf's are very big and a vibrant green color. the lines on the leaf are symetrical.

i have a small area in front of my home that i want to plant flowers. right now it is full of dirt and weeds and i want to plant them without the hassle of digging up weeds constantly. what's the best way ? i've heard of using newspapers to line it with but i dont know. any suggestions ?

Reply:I had a beautiful floral garden last year. This was my first attempt at gardening. I laborously pulled up all the weeds down to the roots, removed the rocks and stones, and I also pulled up the grass. I did not want to have to cut a lot of grass. After that I turned over the soil, added some top soil with fertilizer and planted my flowers, and bulbs. I then got some regular black garbage bags and split them open. I covered all of the soil with plastic and then I put some bags of red mulch on top. I poked a few holes around my plants and I made sure there was mulch around my plants and seedlings.

I never saw another weed. Those dandelion roots are big and tough. I got so many compliements on my garden. I tried to use a blend of colors and flowers that were annuals and perennials.

The plastic may not be enviro friendly, but I knew it wouldn't allow any sunlight in for the pesty weeds to poke their heads up.

Reply:Weeding needs to be simply put a necessity, barriers across the ground is a good start and I like the newpapers (recycling) myself with a think layer of mulch, I have had the best luck with about a 4 inch layer of a product called soil conditioner. Yes I do still have to do some weeding a couple times throughout the year but with airborne weed seeds this is a common occurance, you may stop the weeds that may already be there but there are more of them to find their way to your clean new planting bed. A good thing is that they are much easier to remove from a worked area than say a lawn type area. The mulch will decompose and create pockets of rich organics that weed seeds love. The dark coloring of the soil conditioner also solorizes the soil cooking some of the weeds seeds before they have a chance to germinate, as well as protecting thengs in cooler times of the year. You will have to reapply in the future it become sort of a ritual thing at least once a year here at my house in the spring, till in the old, and renew. If you want to cut costs on your mulch see what your local tree service does with all their tree shreddings/chippings, you may get it for free, I do.1 truckload a year. There is also a newer produce made from chipped/recycled tires/rubber products, may last longer and lessen weeds further since it in not organic whatsoever, I think it comes in colors also. But this has to be removed to work the soil from year to year, I would not incorporate this into my soil.

Reply:any home and garden supply store will carry a cloth that is black and will kill the weeds that are currently there and prevent new ones from growing. just roll it out and pin it down then cut a hole where you wish to put your flowers and when you are finished you can cover the whole bed with wood chips or my favorite is river stone
Reply:Turn over your soil and smooth it flat. Lay 3-4 layers of newspapers on the ground and then cut 6-inch holes in the paper for every plant and put your flowers in the soil. Cover the newspaper with 4 inches of shredded cypress mulch. Water the flowers well. the newspaper will keep weed seeds from sprouting and smother any living weeds that didn't die when you turned over your soil.
Reply:you can buy mesh screen from a hardware store like lowes or home dumbo or you can use newspaper. the newspaper is great and is bio-friendly. eventually weeds will come throught the newspaper, but it would be by the end of the season.
Reply:I've always had very good luck with wood chip mulch. Every so often one gets through, but if you have 2 or 3 inches of the stuff, not enough light gets through for germination of seed.

I am trying to figure out what kind of flowers/plants I should get for a funeral. It was for a stillborn baby boy. I was thinking along the lines of yellow or light blue colors flowering plant this way it won't die as fresh cut flowers do.

Hi! I think yellow and light blue sounds like nice colors. Actually anything pastel colored would be appropriate for a child. I would first make sure that the plant can be useful to them. The previous answerer is right that some people don't know to take their flowers and plants with them because I know a lot about florist business and they recycle what is unknowingly left behind and even 'resale' the same plants and usually reuse the fresh cut flowers in other sprays and arrangements. It's not right but they do it all the time.

Anyhow, I think the idea of a plant is very logical and thoughtful. Especially if it a beautiful flowering plant like mums or daisies because they are attractive in any place. I really feel for the parents, I can only imagine how devastated they must be.

Use a cake topper at the top of the cake. This way you don't have to do anything to intricate at the top. Just look at different wedding cakes/bakery websites and try to find a design you like...or several designs that you can mesh together.

Reply:Have you done flowers before? Because from the sounds of it you haven't - and if that is the case you would be unlikely to ever make them look good. Icing flowers take an awful lot of time and practice. My father used to make them so he knows... he can't make them any more because he hasn't kept it up. It is extremely hard to do because you have to have the fondant at just the right texture and have to be quick so it doesn't dry out and crack... so much hassle.

I would suggest you just go and buy some from an icing/cake shop. It could end up looking really 2nd rate otherwise. (Sorry to be so blunt but I have tried making them and know a lot of people who are good at icing cakes and they still find it hard)

From what I can tell, gum paste is easier to work with with regards to decorative items such as flowers and they also tend to be more realistic since you can roll it thinner. There are TONS of how-to's online regarding gum-paste flowers...

Any creative ideas for watering my garden?

I have a rather big garden, I have a butterfly and hummingbird garden, a veggie garden, and my kids have their own garden, not to mention the 3 rose bushes that line the garage and random flowers and plants around the perimeter of the yard. I feel like I am wasting water. I set my sprinkler up in each area for 20 minutes, that is almost 2 hours of watering! I love my garden but I would like to conserve water. I cannot afford anything too expensive. Does anyone know of any easy yet practical ways to achieve proper watering while still conserving?

Any creative ideas for watering my garden?
You might try running soaker hoses through the gardens. That way the water is getting only to where you need it. I have ours set up with a "splitter" type thing at the main spigot. From that I have regular garden hose running just to the area I want watered, and then the soaker hose connected at that point and arranged around the items that need to be watered. It is best to water deeply and less frequently. That will encourage the roots to run deep into the ground where they will not dry as quickly. If you water more often but in smaller amounts, the roots tend to come to the surface and dry out easier.
Reply:Sprinklers do waste water. Better to use soaker hoases. You can leave them there all season and it delivers the water to exactly the spot where it's needed.
Reply:For most vegetables, shrubs, flowers and trees, there is nothing better than a drip system. It may be a royal pain to do the first time, and may require several trips back and forth to the nursery or home %26amp; garden center to get all the component parts that you need for your specific layout, but over time, you will be so glad that you did it. And, then expanding your watering system will be much easier.

There are several books, pamphlets, and brochures on putting in a drip system. Key to the whole layout is buying a "Y" connector for the water faucet that you are going to use, one of the arms of the "Y" connector dedicated to the drip system and the other for hose use. (It took me a few hours to figure that out - and it wasn't in "the manual".)

It takes a little work and patience to figure out how to punch the holes in the black tubing to set the drippers in, but you'll get the hang of it. Be sure to buy several packages of the "hole repair" plugs so that you can seal up any holes that you make by mistake.

Ideally, find someone that has a lot of experience with a drip system in your neighborhood. They can save you a bundle of time and money by showing you what works best in your area.

Drip systems do not work very well at all for lawns or turf, although their are special sprinklers and other accessories that would lead you to believe that they might work for that.

Your drip system can cut your water bill literally in half. In very hot weather, you may need to run your drip system every day or every other day for an hour or more at a time. But, then after rains and in cloudy weather, you can cut back to once a week.

One important piece is the pressure regulator. Don't overlook that piece, especially if you have high water pressure.

That's all I can think of right now. Hope that's helpful.
Reply:I would add rain barrels to your property at every downspout on your house. That way you can get your water from them as much as possible, and only use your well water when the barrels have run dry. If the barrels are above the garden they can still be hooked to the hose system and gravity will take care of the delivery.
Reply:I think the drip mist or drip method is the best for conserving yet giving significant moisture to plants to live and grow. Ask your local Armstrong or nursery center for which is best for where you live. I've seen cactus in the desert grow with great speed. I think the key is watering early in the morning and in the evening, too.
Reply:Simple soaker hose and garden hose irrigation: Using an old garden hose, cut the hose, insert "T" connections with splice kit, install soaker at each T to run the length of your garden. T's and repair splices are available at WalMart, very inexpensive. You'll end up with soakers perpendicular to hose. Contact my avatar for more detail, if you wish.

Reply:It may seem expensive now but there are some good irrigation outfits that can set u up with a system that will conserve on water and eventually save u money. I do irrigation in Minnesota(mnirrigation) and we use a system which is called netifilm which is a very Persis drip hose. also could use misters insted of sprays to cut down. try asking a local outfit to set u up with a system that you can hook up to your hose with no electronics. which could be alot cheaper. but then you will have to regulate the water yourself. its nice to have the state of mind that your plants or yard is being watered on schedule and for an exact amount of time programed. you can program a set amount of water per week. u also can have a direct inject fertilizer(fertigater) they even have units that monitor wind, rain and frost to regulate the program plus with drip the city can see when you water.

So I went very simple, for the ladies I did a single rose with a beautiful bow and I made my own bouteniers for the men. Oh, don't forget the preacher a corsage. Box turtle questions ~~ a pet that lives in our backyard?

One has lived in our backyard for 12 years. The backyard is a virtual paradise of shrubs, flowers in full bloom, shade all along the wooden fence line. The turtle is solid brown, not spotted brown. It has a few yellow spots around the mouth, but none on its front legs. It is larger than a man's fist by about 1/2 again. In 2005 a super heat wave hit and the turtle disappeared. This year in the spring it appeared again, apparently none the worse for having hid out through two summers and winters. It eats snails, bugs, earthworms. We offer eggs, apples, plumbs, wet dog food. Every morning it walks up to our back door and stares at us on the inside. That's when we freshen the bath water and take out some food. It quickly takes its bath, sometimes eats a tiny amount of the food, sometimes ignores it. It is friendly, listens to us talk, and allows us to stroke its chin.

Yesterday my daughter nearly ran over a box turtle in our front driveway. It wasn't ours. It is smaller, with lots of yellow spots around the mouth and all over the front legs. It looks like photos I've seen on the net.

What's the risk of this new turtle in the backyard, and why is our turtle brown-shelled all over, with no yellow dots like this new one?

There is a fair amount of variation between individual box turtles and the males tend to have brighter colours on the head and legs. However you may also have two sub-species. The solid brown shell is more typical of the three-toed box (they can actually have 4 toes) which is Terrapene carolina triungis while the one with yellow on the shell sounds like an Eastern box (T. carolina carolina). Their ranges do overlap around Alabama and Mississippi.

Your care of your backyard visitor is excellent and your description of living with him/her quite charming. It's no wonder why he has stayed in your yard for 12 years.

If the second turtle is also native to your area then there should be no risk from introducing them. Males can be territorial but as your first one is established in your backyard they will likely naturally work something out. I'm assuming that the turtles are not actively contained in your yard but are free to come and go. This link may be helpful.

She is 8 months old and has been a scard cat from the shelters, two to be exact, but loves her partner cat. We've had her for two months.

I have been trying all your suggestions and she is just starting to smell our slippers, clothing, socks anything on the floor and laying on them as to say, it's OK. She doesn't spray just smells and lays. She is fixed.

We still can't touch her. I just bought, on line, "Essence of Flower" a rescue remedy by Dr. Jean Hovfe, recommended by "Old Cat Lady".

I will let you all know how this works.

And the person who said, "Just talk to her and tell her how much you love her and tell her how beautiful she is" I give you all my gratitude. And to he person who said, not to expect anything, but give her only what she can accept is a wonderful thought for us to let go and love what is!

Some cats just take more time to become acclimated. It sounds as if you are doing a great job with Heidi. Do let us know about the Essence of Flower - I've never heard of that, but it seems interesting.

I'm going to give you another bit of advice that may sound totally off the wall. In fact, some of you readers may think I'm a bit "off" in the head, but, what the heck, here goes....along with talking to Heidi, try singing to her!

For some reason, cats enjoy this. I can sing a couple of verses of

"Happy Birthday" (inserting the cat's name, of course!), and the cat will come around every time! It's uncanny, but it works!! Just sing in a normal voice - not too loud, and see what happens.

Try it! What can it hurt?
Reply:Yes, indeed--she is definitely making progress. Seems like your scent makes her more comfortable now, if she's lying on it.

If you want to be absolutely shameless, you can bribe her to come closer to you with treats. About once a day, get a little smelly food that cats love--maybe wet food if she usually eats dry--and set it as far from you as she'll come and still be comfortable. Then sit quietly and talk casually, ignoring her, until she goes to eat the food (if she doesn't, it should be moved further away). Then you can start moving the food slowly closer... very slowly indeed; and not out into the middle of the room because she probably doesn't like being out in the open and exposed...

The ferals back in my old town were taken care of by a friend who owned a restaurant; and though they wouldn't come closer to me than about ten feet, they would move within a foot of her when she came with their food.

Cats trust people who aren't sudden or excitable, who feed them, and who love them... They can really read body language and tone of voice, and tell if you love them. Cats trust people who are predictable.

Also, she's young still; I bet she loves to play. Are you trying wand/fishing rod toys on her? Those would help her associate you with fun, while still not having to get very close to you to play.

Heidi might never be a lap cat, or even tolerate more than casual contact and brief, gentle petting; but if she can become a confident house cat who likes human presence, has fun playing, and trusts her human and feline companions, you can consider her rehabilitated. :)

Spend time sitting and think about your average day and then think of a special day to you. Recall all the things back then which made you happy, you know I just needs to be something that brings a smile to your face. Once you know what really makes you happy, go experience it!

As for the various religions, they began as attempts to explain the phenomena we explain today with science and to keep a savage people under control. Today we have those structures outside of religion; so thats why you get so confused trying to relate all those things that you've tried to relate, becuase they don't make any sense and are part of an outdated system of beliefs. first thing, the error line number 6 probably does not reference the line you have numbered as 6. my guess is that line 10 of your line numbered code is where the problem is. that would be the actual 6th line of code as defined by the ; designating the end of line.

if that is the case, i can't offer any more help as i am unfamiliar with the importFrom function, but you might try using defined variables instead of constants in the call. the parser may be confusing them for column names?

The flowers in the bouquet appear to be anemones and salvias with greenery. They are situated at the bottom of the pottery and are straight up and down - not slanted following the lines of the dish. The pattern is reminiscent of late 1920 and early 1930 patterns.

How important is Freedom of Religion to you? Where do you begin to draw lines?

Is Freedom only for your Sect? or your Religion? Is it open to all foreign religions? To new religions? To sects you disagree with? How about specific sects (whether in Wisconsin or Saudi Arabia) that teach terrorism? Would you throw out the Flowers along with the Weeds?

How important is Freedom of Religion to you? Where do you begin to draw lines?
Very important. I will draw the line at any relgion that wants to impose its beliefs on others, but that is what freedom of religion is supposed to protect. Isn't it? The way some countries try to delegate which religion can be practiced, one has to wonder. Then again maybe it all comes down to the fact that there really isn't any freedom of religion. Interesting little tidbit you might want to contemplate - When war is declared (in the USA) the Bill of Rights becomes null and void and has to be re-enacted by congress at the cessation of war. After WWII it never was. Check the congressional records if you don't believe me. I guess its why the US government can get away with such anti-rights legislation like the Homeland Security Act.

If one party gains control of 2 branches (most likely the executive and the Legeslative.) then there are 2 final ideas unifying the people against any dictatorship that may rise.

Freedom of religion is essential to lioberty. Without it, and its associates (Speech and the like) Then there is no freedom. without ammendment 2, the citizens lose the right to defeat the governemnt. And yes Rifles and hand guns mixed with a few semi-auto weapons are indeed enough to empower a militia to defeat the american government. (Bombs dont hold much power in civil conflicts. As the LA riots so eloquentlly demonstrated.) More to the point there might be about half a million soilders in the Entire us Army. 2 or three determened states could easily defeat that right now.

Religious freedom is for everyone. The first Ammendment is what sustains the power of the people, and makes it possible for us to further our freedom as we see fit.

When was the last time you saw someone criticizing a Christian because they wore a cross? My guess, is probably rare to never.

On the other hand, I wear my pentacle, and am criticized, looked at funny and even witnessed to by people that believe it's their duty to "save" me. That's not freedom of religion.

Teaching someone something you know to be a lie crosses the line, but I don't think it should be a crime to teach ideas as truth as long as you believe they are true.
Reply:Freedom of Religion is worth defending, even, as an absolute last resort, with deadly force. It's one thing soldiers of many countries have fought and died for. Many civilians have endured ostracism, harassment, and even martyrdom to defend Freedom of Religion. Drawing a line is tricky. England has a state Church, the Church of England of course! However no one except the ruling monarch is obliged to belong to it, the State makes no effort to push it on anyone, and to my knowledge discrimination based on religious affiliation or belief is illegal in Great Britain. So, it is definitely possible to have a state church and still have religious freedom. As far as the situation in the USA is concerned, even though I'm a Norse Heathen, if the Christians want to put their creche in the courthouse lawn during the Holiday Season, I don't care. If the government says they can but the Jews, Pagans and whoever else has a holiday toward the end of the year or the beginnning of the new year can't put up their stuff, then I'd throw fits. Unfortunately, this country is biased against all religions, other than Christianity ( think about all the Christian holidays that are recognized by the government, the words "under god" added to the pledge and our money, and all the religious symbols on government property, just for a start).

They marched with MLK and were very fond of explaining to me that it was just as important to protect the free speach rights of those who opposed them, "because if they can shut them up then they can shut us up". As for religon and violence I have a simple theory - Violence is not religion, it is violence. Yet we need to be very careful how we interpret that. I am sure that residence of the cities that the "Crusaders" went through would have a very different opinion on their "liberation".

I believe that tolerance and understanding is the answer.

Any religion which separates one from one's family, friends and outside associations, trains out free thought, hunts down and captures or kills followers, refuses to allow outsiders in to see what the religious group does on a day to day basis, promotes blind obedience to a religious leader and/or promotes hatred of other religions is classified as a cult. Such examples are the Branch Davidians and the followers of Jim Jones and the WBC.

Those above listed groups are not religions; they are cults.

Outside of those types of cults, freedom of religion should include all real religions (i.e. not cults).

That said, what many do not understand, here in the US about freedom of religion, is that freedom to practice one's religion ends at the listeners right to say no.

Many take religion to mean that they may use whatever means that they feel justified in doing to convert others to their religious beliefs. We see the examples all over the news and in the world where we live.

Under our Constitution, freedom of religion gives us the right to practice our faith as we see fit without government interference, BUT it also limits us in one very important way; we MAY NOT coerce, in any way, shape or form, others to our religion. It doesn't matter what that religion is.

To clarify, here are a few examples;

Jehovah's Witnesses may come to your door and ask to preach their religion to you. When you say "no", then they must leave.

Anyone may preach their religion, to all who wish to listen, in a public place. However, they may not follow or harass you into listening by following you and preaching to you if you walk away or say that you are not interested.

Anyone may post their preaching on a publicly operated web group, however, if the owners of the group say that they may not preach religious subjects (no matter what religion) on that group, then that is the rule that must be followed.

Freedom of religion safeguards us to freely practice our religions, but it also protects us from persecution and unwanted harassment from other religions or religious group.

When walking down the ailse at the ceremony, what would be the correct order including parents and grandparents. I have my mother and my step father, the grooms parents, I have one grandmother, he has one grandmother, 2 ring bearers, 1 flower girl, 1 juniors bridesmaids, 5 bridesmaids, 5 groomsmen, 1 best man, 1 maid of honor, and my father walking me down the aisle.

What would be the best processional line-up?
Well this is how we did it for my wedding...

-Grandparents went first, his side followed by my side

-Then the Grooom's parents were seated

-Next, my mother was seated by an usher

-The bridesmaids went indivdually meeting thier partner groomsman half way down the aisle

-Then the flower girl/ring bearer

-Finally my dad and myself

Interesting mix of soils. I'd start composting all the oak leaf droppings with grass clippings and other leaves. That would break down into beautiful mulch and could be dug or tilled into the soil. You'll need a ton of it to make any impact on the sandy loam, but, hey, it's free and you'll have a ton of it before you know it. That commercial soil conditioner is expensive and you're probably not adding enough of it to make a difference. I stopped buying that stuff a long time ago. Now I compost my leaves and grass clippings and those of my neighbors, as well (they LOVE me!). It took me about two years but I just kept rototilling the compost in and - voila! - rich soil with very few insects.
Reply:add sphagnum peat moss to your sandy areas and composted pine bark to the clay areas. peat will help maintain moisture balance in sand and bark will help clay drain and become looser.

you're probably nutrition starved in all areas.. trees absorb a LOT of nutrients. controlled release fertilizer is a great way to go.. like Osmocote.

Further.. are you planting the right plants???? Sounds like you need shade lovers there..

Ideas for covering up a lower back tattoo?

I have a tribal bat on my lower back and was wondering if anybody had some unique designs that I could get it covered up with? I love cats and flowers. because the tattoo is not colored in it should be pretty easy for a TALENTED artist to cover up. (what the previous person said about having to have it covered with black ink is not true because it isn't colored in solid black) i have had 2 tattoos covered up and they look great. first you need to decide what you want to get (just a general idea) then you should contact a custom tattoo artist and talk to them about your coverup. i wouldn't recommend getting a coverup using flash because it's just so generic. let the custom tattoo artist create a piece of art for you that will adequately cover the old tattoo. if you look at my 360 you'll see my back piece which has covered up two old tattoos. i couldn't be happier with it. it was definitely worth the time and money i put into getting it. if you need help finding an artist in your area feel free to email me.

Reply:The truth is that any cover-up is going to be bigger than what you have now.

I agree that you should consult an artist. A cover up has to be big enough to encompass the lines that are already there and also incorporate the color.

I had a small maybe 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch Japanese symbol that I had covered up with a Buddha and the Buddha had to go almost 1/2 way up my back...of course that has to do with the fact that the Buddha is what I wanted so if the exact tat does not matter you may be able to get away with something that is not much bigger.

So it will have to be a bit bigger and have a lot of color.

Reply:The only thing that covers black ink is BLACK INK. The only way to cover the existing design is cover the lines with a BIGGER design.

The best place to start is a reputable tattoo parlor. Look through their portfolios and ask for examples of tattoo "cover ups". Show the artist what you have and they can recommend the best way to cover your existing tattoo.

Be prepared to spend hundreds of dollars and at least 5 hours (2 or more sittings) to completely cover your tribal bat.

And just be glad you never had the bat colored!

Has anyone ever had a bad experience with FTD?

I ordered flowers a week before the 14th and they guarenteed they would be there by the 14th now the flowers won't be there until the 16th. The worst part is I can't talk to a person because their costomer servce line keeps hanging up on me due to high call volume. Don't ever use FTD.

Has anyone ever had a bad experience with FTD?
I've had the same problem. I ordered mine on the 12th and they never showed up, even though the "check status" on the website says they were delivered.

I can't get through their customer service line, and my email has not been answered.

I'm wondering if they had some sort of computer malfunction that affected their ordering system?

I am definitely boycotting FTD!

Theres a woman who I work with who I really care about. I've told her this. She says i'm the nicest lovelist man she knows but just doesnt think it could work. OK I say to myself. Then I get a message saying that if it wasnt for work she probably would go out with me. I'm very confused as we have the odd message about things but it gets to a point and she suddenly stops. She says she isn't repulsed by me or think i'm ugly. From what I can tell its just cos we work 2gether. I've said, so what? whats the worst that can happen!! Today we were messaging and I said something along the lines of "oh so the thought of kissing me repulses you" to which she replied "Don't be soft I dont find you replusive". It was literally in the dirt when I found it. It scared me because I've never seen such a thing. I tried picking it up with a spoon but I guess I harmed it because it started to foam and drip. I've tried looking on the internet but no luck. It was about the six of half a pinkey and it was blood red with some black lines. On one top it was pointy and everytime I poked it that point woulld rotate. WHAT IS IT?!

It's definitely a grub which has developed to a June bug ready to emerge. They eat the roots of just about everything. I hope you didn't put it back in the ground. Get some Grub X and follow the directions. Grubs can destroy a lawn or garden in a very short period of time. After they spend some time feeding on roots they emerge as a beetle known as a June Bug. They then lay more eggs and the process starts all over again. Grub killer should be put down twice during the growing season. The instructions for your zone will tell you when.

This July I am going on a trip to Hawaii with my boyfriend and his family- his parents are getting remarried on the beach. His dad is wearing linen pants... seems it will be pretty casual. I have bought a red sun dress with small white flowers on it, and it goes to the knee. It has a v- neckline and short sleeves. It ties in the back right under the bust line and then flows loosely from there. I'm not sure if this is right, or if I should be looking for something else.

Not only does it suck if you don't have anyone to share it with, but even if you have someone, they usually F it up. Who invented this "holiday" anyways? Its a cheesy day that usually makes people end up feeling upset because they have no one or mad at they're boyfriends for screwing it up. I was in smiths yesterday and the line of men buying wilting flowers at the last minute was incredible. Shouldn't we be showing our love EVERY day, not just Feb. 14th with overpriced stale chocolate and wilting flowers?

What is the point of valentines day?
Valentines Day is one of those manufactured holidays that Hallmark and every jewelry store and florist on the face of the earth take full advantage of, by making it seem like unless you get your "sweetheart" something on that day, you really don't care. It's a total guilt trip, right up there with Boss's Day and Secretary's Day and Kwanzaa.

P.S. I've only gotten one box of chocolates from a guy I was dating, and I swear the stuff had been left over from LAST valentines day.

I no longer go with that guy, and in fact, I no longer go with ANYONE. I'm better off solo, and I know what kinda chocolates I like.

i have a drawing of mine that I want to get tattooed onto me, but I am not sure where. It is a flower in black almost like a tribal or aztec tat, with a butterfly sucking it's nectar. I am torn between my back upper shoulder blade area, w/ the butterfly coming out onto my shoulder/arm, or my chest. I am thinking above the breast, closer to the front shoulder area, possibly even lower/mid breast line . . . any suggestions?

I've seen some ol' leather-skinned biker chicks with ooooold tats and man, they shoulda thought more about placement. You don't want to draw attention to any titty sag. But on the bright side, you do appear to get more ink for your money when the tattoo stretches out along with your skin.

I am really interested in someone. We were only seeing each other for around 3 weeks. Things got a little complicated (she has a serious health condition) and I told her that I felt we shouldnt see each other again. I said that out of fear. She hung up on me before I could explain. I've called her a few times and left messages asking her to call, but no call. I've tried to explain that I said what I said out of fear but nothing has worked. I know she was really interested in me before all of this happened. I dont want to give up, but at the same time I dont want to look like a stalker. I was thinking about sending flowers, trying a new approach. Any suggestions? Should I just leave her alone? There is that old saying that you will never know until you give it your all... but I dont want to look psycho or desperate. Where do we draw the line?

Be there when she needs you, like maybe if she got hurt by someone socially or physicaly. Help her with any trouble. Don't judge her by something that doesn't mean anything UNLESS you guys are going out like if maybe she talks to another guy (let her have her space). Call when you actually want to "hang out" with her or have something important to say. No "I'm bored" conversations, she might have something less boring or more important to do. Don't always go places with her alone (like ALL the time), join in with some friends so she doesn't feel the pressure that you're obssessed with her. Don't always make the plans, let others do the brain work and join later or "accidentaly" meet up or something. Girls can take the smallest things as a bad sign

I know it has to be 14 lines, and each line needs 10 syllables. I also know it has to be in the rhyme scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG but it is very hard! Can someone help me out? I was thinking about writing it about growing a flower or something, particularly a rose, but any subject matter will do. Can someone please help me get started? Thanks! And happy new year!

Poetry writing is very difficult. The best way to start is to come up with a theme that you want to discuss. Then, pick the subject through which you want to convey this theme. For example, if you want to write a sonnet about loss of innocence, you could do so metaphorically by describing a wilting flower.

Once you have your theme and subject matter, start to play around and write out your ideas in a first draft. It does not have to be perfect! Just get your ideas on paper. Remember to use lots of descriptive words.

After you have done this, it is time to work your poem into the form of a Shakespearean sonnet. Adjust the lines to fit the rhyme and syllable requirements.

It is a very difficult job, but if you approach it step-by-step like this it should make the process easier. Good luck!

Reply:I'd suggest that you change the word shelter to something else... poems don't always have to rhyme either (unless your assignment calls for it) . Personally I enjoy non-rhyming poems, they sound more sincere. If you made a good poem that doesn't rhyme, you'd probably really impress your teacher.

It's the average size - across - of the flower, given in cm (centimeters) or occasionally inches.

Most rulers will have cm as well as inches.

I and my finace are going to get married in this May. This is first marriage for both of us. Is there any special issue about the color of a wedding gown that I need to concern? Is ivory an appropriate color for a first marriage couple?

I have tried several gowns: white or ivory. Both of us like an ivory one the best. That is a strapless satin A-line gown featuring a cascading side drape with a flower at waist and a sweep train. The flower and drap are in champagne. We do like the contrast of ivory and champagne. It is very elegant and classy. So, we ordered that gown in ivory although they do have white one available. However, now I am worrying if that color is an appropriate choice since I noticed some people would suggest second marriage brides to wear off white/ivory wedding dress. Could somebody please help me? Thank you so much.

For my milky pink tube top dress, it looks somewhat plain, but it gives off this elegant look to it. Right under my chest, there will be some beads there, and from there, there is another layer, that goes up and wrap around my neck, turning it into a scarf.

Or...my baby blue tube top dress that gives off a princessy feel to it. It has two flowers attached to a thin strap that leads to a choker on my neck. The flowers are on the left side of the body. And on the top half, it has lines going across like this....

you describe the dresses thoroughly enough, but what about you? are you pale or tan? blonde or brunette? eye color? these things play a big role in the right color for you to wear.

but if judging solely from the dress description, i would say go with the blue. the ruching that you talk about on the top half usually looks flattering on any body type, and it sounds a lot more formal than your pink one - personally, i think it's a little plain...you want to stand out at prom!

as for jewelry, since the blue one already has something around the neck, simply go for big earrings, added with either a bracelet OR a ring (please not both, dont overdo). and i'd recommend hair up so it won't cover up the flower choker.

Reply:which colour looks better on your skin? we are all either a spring, summer, Autumn or winter and different colours either enhance or make us look worse. some colours will hide little imperfections on your face while others will make them more obvious. you will want the photos to look good aswell. so take a photo of yourself in both dresses in the same light. you might find that one looks better. if you have blue eyes the blue dress might make them look brighter, but maybe if you have fair skin the pink will make you look bronzed. just experiment. best of luck. hope you enjoy the night xo

Another thing you might consider, if you have a digital camera; take pictures of you in each dress. Then you can really see what they look like from the camera's point of view.

My fiance and I are considering a wedding on an island in the caribbean through a cruise line. Has anyone done this that could give some suggestions? I feel like it might be just thrown together, not romantic and cheap but on the other hand everything is done for you. I also would want to choose some flowers of my own, pick a spot on the beach, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions I can work with? Also, does anyone know what is a good cruise line/port of call?

I have a 13x14 (FEET) area that i have rotortillered the area and waiting it to dry to flaten it out. Then I am going to put some Weed Controle Fabric (Weed-X, #1 Rated) down onto the dirt. Then I have going to put Railroad Ties down. Then I am going to get some nice dirt like mirical grow or something down. Now before I say my question I have to have you imagine this. My garden is a square and there is a fence in the back. Behind a fence is crap all over like dead trees. I am going to split my garden and put railroad ties across only about 1/5 in the square. So its a square with a line cut a spot about 2 or 3 feet long. In the spot I want some bushes or anything to cover the fence up. But I only want it about 5 or 6 ft tall and only about 15 feet long. I dont want any trees because it will go over my flower I'm going to put at the rest of my area. I really dont want flowers on the bush but if you suggest it go ahead. I live in Billings MT. Please nobody say lilacs. Thx. Please answer.

the plants name is jatropha podagrica and is part of the euphorbiaceae family. it is a caudiciform meaning it stores water in an enlarged part of the stem-it needs at least 4-5 hours of direct sunlight of you keep it indoors or shade from noon day sun if it is outdoors in the summer and the dirt must dry completely before watering again or it may rot-during the hot parts of the summer you can water it a bit more often-plants that store water are usually plants that live in areas where water is scarce at least during part of the year so they store water for the times when there is very little of it in their environment. you also want to avoid overpotting it-keep the roots tight. it is not a hardy plant-any frost will kill not to mention the moisture if you plant it in the ground-unless you live in mexico where i think it is native. it might be ok if you plant it outside during the summer in a raised bed where a lot of drainage material has been added.

Well, I imagine they don't make a 4 door beetle because there has never been a 4 door beetle. A Volkswagen beetle is a classic and beloved by many. To put 4 doors on a beetle would ruin the style. There simply isn't anywhere to put 4 doors. Besides, I owned a Beetle for years and getting in and out of the back is not that difficult and quite roomy.

Today would have been our 5 year wedding aniversary had we not seperated a year and a half ago. We are trying to be civil and friendly towards eachother because we have children together. He sent me flowers saying happy aniversary, who would have thought we would end up here and signed it love.

He left me a year and a half ago. Dropped me on my head out of nowhere. A stay at home mom with no work experience or education just kicked out like a bum and left to fend for myself and children. I have since tried to be friendly for the sake of the children and for the sake of my sanity (his weekends with the kids give me a much needed break).

How do I handle this? I do not even want to acknoweldge this date anymore.

awww hugs sweetie. You know what, I think you have done great with yourself and the kids but I wish we could decide anything for you but the fact is you are the only one who can decide. Relaxing, deep breathing and seeing what you want in long term will present a clearer picture. It is very possible he may have learnt a lesson through this ordeal. Do what makes you happy! The only thing is if he has learned and wants to become a responsible husband, it would be super for you as well as the kids. I wish you all the best. Be positive and think positive. Peace and Love!

Edit: Mable, Anger is something that will harm you. Its completly okay if you want to move on but then free your heart of the grudge as well and forgive irrespective of how hard it may be. Its hurting you foremost, you cant gain anything out of it either. So rise above it. There is alot more to life. I am sorry to hear what happened. Reply:When I've made bad decisions in the past, or treated people less fairly or kindly than I know they deserved to be treated, I've tried later on to reassure myself that everything is okay, that the deeds are forgotten or forgiven.

Maybe he was acting out of a sense of guilt or apology that he's only just beginning to understand now that he's had enough time to think about the situation -- you know, finally starting to think seriously on where he went wrong as opposed to being trapped in his own selfish version of things -- and is trying to act like everything is okay again in the hopes that you'll agree and alleviate some of his guilt or remorse or something.

With several of my ex girlfriends in years past, I've written valentines day cards or other things like that when I haven't been on good terms in order to sort of alleviate my own conscience. Best bet is to write it off and ignore it. He'll likely mention sending the flowers, then tell him what you just told us. You thought it was over the line, the date is one you're trying to forget after the hard times he put you through. Then remind him civility is for the kids.
